Dickins Room

We had a slow start to the week with Melbourne cup and the School curriculum day occurring. This didn’t slow our learning down however.

Our Wimbi class enjoyed a day where we used our morning meeting time to sing some songs and play some games around teddies, celebrating our time we have had with Freddy. The children are really enjoying this process and it is supporting their leadership, confidence, listening and social development. The class has really settled into a grove of engaging with incredible focus and co-operation with each other. It is such a delight to observe and support.

We are looking forward to our Drama Toolbox incursion on Tuesday, please make sure you have paid for this at the office.

Our Marram class has had a great week also! We have engaged in some small project and science work around making kites. This process supported the children’s ability to work using multiple steps in order to achieve an outcome and extended their hands on learning around scientific principles of force, energy and lift.

We have been engaging in discussions around how our brain learn. We have had discussions around learning through challenges and even how failure is a good learning opportunity for each of us. We extended this by watching a you tube clip of synapses and neurons growing within a child. This has further supported the children to engage in growth mindset principles and to ‘have a go’ when faced with challenges.

On Friday we further unpacked our emotions with Cristina in our Chinese language program, this has supported our learning throughout the year around being kind and empathetic towards our friends and in creating strong, supportive relationships that extend learning.

Moore Room

There has been a lot happening in the Moore room. The children expressed great interest in the alphabet writing sheets after their school orientation day and we provided these to practice the lower case letter formation. The box construction has been a big hit with the children exploring ideas, problem solving and requesting additional resources to complete their ideas.

The use of the felt board has created an area to explore ‘story-telling’, which has enabled the exchange of ideas and great conversations as well as being an area to allow for some moments of solitude. The peg boards allows for the children to make patterns and sequencing as well as hone their fine motor skills.

We have also been exploring ‘good foods and sometimes foods’ through a mixture of both in the home -corner as well as through puzzles and books. We are really enjoying some big group games such as; doggy doggy who has the bone and duck duck goose which requires co-operation and sharing lots of humour, happiness and confidence.

Have a fantastic week!
