Discovery Centre

Curriculum

It was a short but busy week in the Discovery Centre last week! After our long weekend, students wasted no time in getting back to routine.

In Literacy, we focused on using pictures to develop meaning of a text. We watched the short film, ‘For the birds’ to learn how to use visuals to understand characters’ emotions. Following this, students created dialogue to accompany the video to show their understanding of the events in the story and the characters’ personalities. On Thursday, we also had the opportunity to watch the inter-school speech contest to cheer on Diba who represented our Foundation cohort. Congratulations to Diba on an excellent presentation!

In Maths, we focused on location and using language to describe position and movement. Students loved the opportunity to use the Botleys and using directions to code them to reach a special object.

Last Friday was a special day as we made poppies in preparation for our Remembrance Day service today. Students learnt about the significance of the day and how it is important to pay respects to the soldiers who have fought for our country. It was also the last session for our Junior Rotations which has proven to be a real highlight for students this year. They have really enjoyed the program as it has allowed them to develop skills in new areas in addition to forming new relationships with other students and teachers.

Have a great week!

Reminders

  • Our walking excursion is fast approaching and we thank the families who have already returned the permission slip and envelope. If you have not already done so, please return the permission slip with an empty envelope which is stamped and addressed as soon as possible. Please note that we will be writing the Christmas card in class, so you don’t need to include anything in the envelope.
  • This afternoon we will be sending home the Talk Homework slip in your child's orange folder. Please discuss the topic with your child so they are prepared for their writing portfolio task tomorrow.
