Independence Centre

Curriculum

Last week was such a short, sharp week in the Independence Centre. We hope everyone had a nice relaxing long weekend! This week, we return to a full week of school.

Assessment was a big focus last week, and it gave us an opportunity to reflect on what our students have achieved over the year! We were really impressed with how focused all the students were during this time, especially as it can be quite hard to come back after a long weekend! In Reading, we continued to work on visual literacy, and all students had a project to take pictures around the school, focusing on different angles and colour! Keep an eye out for these on Seesaw!

This week, we resume our normal routines! In Maths, we will be focusing on ‘mapping’. Coordinates, compass points, scale and directional language are just some of the aspects we will cover!

In Writing, we begin a new topic, focusing on ‘explanation texts’. We will be writing explanation texts, which explain how or why something works/happens. In Reading, visual literacy will be our continued focus, with a chance to explore how shadows and colours can convey emotions.

We are beginning to make our stop motion animations! Can you please ensure that your child has downloaded the app: stop motion studio. As well as this, students can bring in a small figurine or toy to be in their animation.

Have a great week!

Mr Chris Rodgers, Miss Emma Kelly, Miss Ella Gasowski and Mr Nick Dix.
