Leadership Centre

Curriculum
We trust that all students and families had a relaxing and enjoyable four day weekend. Everyone was refreshed and ready to undergo a range of assessment tasks in English, Mathematics and Science in readiness for teachers to write Semester Two reports.
Earn and Learn is now upon us in the Leadership Centre! Earn and Learn is a maths based unit and involves setting up an economy whereby students can apply a range of everyday maths skills and understandings to make a ‘profit’. Students will either plan and run a business that offers a product or service or perform a specific job such as a policeman or real estate agent to earn money. The sessions will also see students pay bills which will be determined by the location of their business. (Eg. If a business is nearer a heater then they will pay more in power). Next week students will be presenting their business plans and being interviewed by Miss Nelson, Mrs. Streitberger and Mrs.Hosken to hopefully be successful in obtaining their position. They will dress up as they would normally for an interview in the real world. Interviews will be held on Thursday between 11:30 and 1:30pm. Students will be given their allocated time which will run for approximately 10 minutes.
Students have started working on their resumes and business plans which involve doing market research and identifying their short and long term goals, expected income and expenses and skills required to make a profitable and successful business. This will be their main homework for this week. We look forward to seeing the many varied and original ideas for businesses. Stay tuned for more!
Last week students shared their voice as to what they would like to cook in the Cafe Studio. We believe that it is important for students to have a say in their learning which helps to drive engagement and student agency. As part of the cooking challenge students researched muffin recipes and then as a class voted on which one they would like to cook. The muffin recipe needed to include: one fruit and one vegetable, be low in sugar, be nut free and dairy and egg free. 5/6’S winning recipe was a carrot, lemon and raspberry muffin.
The Year 6’s have been researching ideas for their upcoming end of year excursion to again incorporate student voice. Students will share their ideas and then a final decision will be made. More details will follow in the next two weeks.
Have a great week.
