Principal's Report

Public Speaking Competition
Last week, Mount Pleasant Road hosted the Inter School Public Speaking Competition. Students from Rangeview, Antonio Park and Parkmore Primary Schools participated in the competition alongside students from our school. The competition was of a very high standard and the Toastmasters' judges had a very difficult job deciding the winners.
Congratulations to Diba (F), Lily (1/2), Coby (3/4) and Zahra (5/6) for making it through to the Inter School competition. Your speeches were all excellent and you did Mount Pleasant Road proud. Lily is also congratulated on coming first in her section of the Inter School Competition. I also thank Mrs Emma McCoy for all her work in coordinating the competition.
We look forward to another great year of public speaking next year!
Bazaar Reveal
At assembly on Friday the school leaders revealed another ride for our upcoming Pleasant Bazaar. The students were very excited when we showed this photo of the Sky Rider. Don't forget to order your ride wristband prior to the Bazaar for a discounted price! Details in this newsletter.
We also need your help to make the day a huge success, please volunteer for an hour or two on a stall of your choosing. Sign ups are online at https://signup.zone/zCGEie9jWCimPSdAJ Parents, carers, guardians, grandparent or friends can sign up to help so please spread the word.
Moving House
If your child will not be attending Mount Pleasant Road in 2020 (other than current Year 6 students) please inform me in writing and include the name of the new school, if known. This will help us to organise a smooth transition for your child and also assist us with class planning and the budget.
Class Placement 2020
As was mentioned in the newsletter last week parents and carers may provide me with specific information about their child’s learning needs, that they believe the school may not be aware of. Such information would not include a request for a particular teacher. The information should be provided in writing (letter or email) addressed to the Principal and submitted by Friday 22rd November. This information will be referenced, along with other available information, during the class placement process.
Parents are advised that these requests are considered but not automatically accommodated.
Head Lice Checks
A big thank you to Meagn Sieh and her band of helpers Rick Starkey, Jennifer Eury, Jen O'brien, Liz Clyde, Fon Phichayakul, Nileema Kumar, Alicia Seymour, Ebony Balaz, Carly Leech, Luke Watters and Ruchita Modi for the efficient way they conducted the checks last Friday. This program is very important in keeping the incidents of head lice to a minimum and with so many helpers it means that there is minimal disruptions to classes.
Remembrance Day Service
Thank you to all the families that supported our Remembrance Day Service by attending or sending flowers with your children. Although we had some sound difficulties I am always impressed with the perseverance and resilience of our leaders, Senior Choir and students. It was also nice to have the Kinder attend and I thank all of the staff who make sure everything is in place for such an important event and how they prepare the students too.
Curriculum Day
For our curriculum day on Monday 4th November we had a teacher from the Austin School run a presentation to all staff on trauma, the effects on the brain and practical strategies to support students in the classroom. Feedback from staff was overwhelmingly positive with many having strategies to trial instantly in the classroom. Despite the strategies targeting children experiencing trauma, many of the strategies would support all learners in the classroom. Our day ended with a presentation from Apple Education, providing strategies and tools to support learners in the classroom. Teachers came away with a variety of ‘tools’ to experiment with in their class.
