Help to set up at home

Supporting our students and families through this challenging time is our number one priority. We will do our best to keep you updated on changes and information through Sentral and the school newsletter regularly. It is important to keep in mind that not all schools will deliver remote learning in the same way, and that each school’s program is tailored to best meet current local needs. The learning tasks created by our teachers are not delivered in the same format as we would in the classroom and teachers need to ensure that work can be completed by students independently where possible. Communication has been sent home to parents from their child’s teacher regarding how remote learning will be delivered.

We also acknowledge the stress remote learning can place on families and want to reassure you that we do not expect you to be your child’s teacher! Teachers have worked hard to try and provide work that students can access and complete independently. The most important thing you can do is to continue to provide comfort, support and encouragement to your child. Here are some simple ways you can assist your child in remote learning:

Create a routine with your child

Make sure your child has a space to work in

Provide a level of supervision suitable to your child’s stage of development eg learning may occur in a shared space or somewhere you can view what your child is doing

Encourage regular exercise breaks eg going for a walk, floor exercises, stretches

Check in with your child and ask them about their learning

What did you learn today?

What was challenging? You could come up with a way to deal with the same problem if it comes up again

Consider three things that went well today. Why were they good?

Are you ok? Do you need to ask your teacher for something? Do you need help with something to make tomorrow more successful?

This is an uncertain time for everyone and students and families are dealing with immense changes to their regular way of life. We will make mistakes along the way, but as a community, we are all trying to do the best for our students. If anything this time has the potential to make our MPRPS community even stronger!

If you have any concerns regarding the learning and wellbeing of your child please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or Kim or myself through the school email address.
