Orchard to Plate

Last week we had the grade 3 and 4 students come into the kitchen and test out their knife skills.

 

As part of the orchard to plate program we have developed a class on knife safety, giving the students the opportunity to learn about being safe in the kitchen.

 

They each tested their skills holding, cutting and carrying a knife and if success were rewarded with a knife license. At the end of the class they all enjoy eating the fruit and veggies they cut up along with some yummy hummus.

 

This week we start the long awaited cooking classes with summertime vegetable pizza on the menu. These pizzas will be made with the squash and zucchini from the orchard along with  homemade ricotta, using the recipe in our cookbook.
