Multicultural Day

…1 week to go!

Hello Everybody!

It’s about to happen!

Dear parents please liaise with other parents who may not be sure about what their children are to do: it’s a CELEBRATION of ALL CULTURES at FWPS!!!

An opportunity to think what is it, a ‘culture’, where does your culture springs from, how we can take the best of every culture and leave to history the aspect that are now outdated. Yes, cultures need ‘Maintenance’ too, they are living styles adapted to the times we live in.

If we all look at our cultures through the ‘magnifying glass’ of Respect we  can hope to keep the best of their values and traditions, so that our children can live and thrive upon that legacy.

Thanks to all families who will try to live the Spirit of the Event!

We are all working hard to have everyone on board for our Multicultural Day,  and by now every student knows about the five tasks we are all to carry out.   One of these task is for all families to be aware of what to do in regards to… FOOD!

Multicultural Day Shared Lunch

We are asking that students bring a plate of food to share with their classmates. Traditional cultural recipes are welcome.  Please provide a list of ingredients to assist with food intolerances or allergies.

You may also wish to write a story about the origin of your dish for the students to share.

Students with Food Allergies: Parents/ carers of students who have an allergy are asked to liaise with classroom teachers and to prepare a separate party plate for their child to avoid any possible contamination.

We are not thinking of pre-packed food from the supermarket, (in particular please no ‘junk’ food), instead we are thinking about traditional recipes that run in the family or that we have learnt from other cultures. Great if you can have your children helping out and prepare your dish with you! The quantity is also important, we expect everyone takes a sample of food for a few students  (4/5 portions max, so that we reduce the leftovers!)

Please be aware that on this day the Canteen will NOT be operating,  and it would be appreciated if food arrives heated and ready for our feast.

Whatever yummy dish you are thinking about, have fun with that and try to communicate the joy of passing down a family recipe!

……………………..

So what are these five little tasks everyone is expected to carry out?

Speak with your child about the following:

  1. Family History: interview one’s family to discover origin, cultures, stories that wait to be told!
  2. Languages: find out if any other language is already spoken in the family and learn some words. Anyway everyone should know 10 ways to say ‘Hello’!
  3. Outfit and clothes: find something to wear, either from your culture or another that you are curious about, or design your own Multicultural T-shirt!
  4. Food:  prepare a dish from your traditional culture or from another culture you appreciate, for the students to share with their classmates.
  5. Gold Coin for a Little Chore: every student offers their time in exchange for a gold coin, to show they are serious about helping the animals to regain their habitat lost during the bushfires.   All Cultures share a strong link with Animals. Let’s help our animals friends!

Thank you so much for your support!

Please be aware that you are welcome to come and share with us the joy of our Big Assembly from 2.30pm.   There will be chairs in the shade for the elderly and a few presentations from our students and all the helpers we are so lucky to have at our school!

Thanks, happy preparations!
