Acting Principal's Report

ActingPrincipal's Message

Thank you to  all the community for your support over the past two weeks whilst Pat has been away in the NT. It certainly has been a busy few weeks with lots of learning and events happening around the school!

Pat has continued to update us with his amazing experiences in the Northern Territory. No doubt he will share his own learnings and thoughts on his trip in next week's newsletter. We look forward to Pat returning on Friday...St Finbar's doesn't feel the same without him.

Protective Behaviours

This week the students in Prep to Year 4 took part in their Protective Behaviour sessions.  The content included using the correct names for body parts, the difference between a "good" secret and a "bad" secret, and the early warning signs that we may feel when a situation doesn't feel right.

You may be interested in exploring some of the below resources that can be used at home to reinforce the important messages imparted during the Protective Behaviours sessions.

National Reconciliation Week

This week is National Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, Be a Voice for Generations, urges all Australians to use their power, their words, and their actions to create a better, more just Australia for all of us.

At St Finbar's we are proud of our Indigenous education program, and the work that Lisa Douglas (who has Indigenous Perspectives as part of her leadership portfolio) puts into raising awareness of Indigenous culture. Please see some photos below of the great work that has been happening around the classrooms this week.

Cluster Day

Our Year 5 and 6 students took part in their first Cluster Day today, which has been reintroduced after a few years' break. This initiative aims to bring students from St Finbar's,  St Joan of Arc and St Mary's together in order to form connections and friendships with students whom they may be heading to secondary school with.

Sickness

There is a lot of sickness around at the moment, with some confirmed cases of Covid.  Some year levels are more affected than others, and these families have been emailed directly to let them know. Please be vigilant in looking for symptoms of illness in your children, and keep them at home if they are displaying any symptoms.
