Term 2 has commenced with a flurry of activity with rehearsals and major performances. The Senior Vocal Ensemble participated in a moving ANZAC service, performing the hymn, Abide with Me, and the emotional song, And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda, featuring tenor soloist Simon Wang (11.14).

Open Day featured performances by all our ensembles in various locations around the school. Concert 1, in the BPAC, started with an infectiously rhythmic version of Danger Zone, presented by the Senior Concert Band. Other groups to perform were Camerata, Vivace, Cabaletta and Andante. Judging by the rowdy applause, the Cherub Choir’s singing of I’ve Lost My Homework was very popular, and the concert concluded with a skilful version of Louder Than Words, sung by a very large Senior Choir.

Camerata and the Senior Vocal Ensemble delighted passers-by in the Senior Building, the Middle Years Vocal Ensemble and Cantabile entertained those in the Middle School Building, and the sounds of Malaguena and the Junior Vocal Ensemble rang throughout the Junior Building. The Middle Years Vocal Ensemble, in its debut performance, impressed those new families in attendance at the Principal’s Address, and the Senior and Middle Years Vocal Ensembles combined for the Opening Ceremony of the Middle School Building, singing the worship song, After All (Holy).

Concert 2 opened with a wonderful performance by Sinfonia of Ancient Ritual, and concluded with the Senior Vocal Ensemble presenting Seasons of Love. Other ensembles to perform were the Junior and Middle Years Vocal Ensembles, Ostinato, Malaguena and Seraphim Choir. The Junior Concert Band, another new ensemble, also made their debut.

Our student musicians are to be congratulated on a truly spectacular day of performing and we are blessed to have the opportunity to work with each one of them.

The Senior Vocal Ensemble backed up by giving an emotional performance at Senior Assembly as part of the Humanities Faculty’s ANZAC presentation.
