Principal's Welcome

Carmela D'Amato

Dear Families,

Last Sunday we celebrated Pentecost Sunday, a day in which we embrace a call to action as part of our Faith.

“The word Pentecost is Greek and it means "50th day." Fifty days after Easter Sunday, we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and their followers, and the beginning of their Earthly ministry to make disciples of all nations.

Pentecost is also a Jewish holiday, which the Jews use to celebrate the end of Passover. Jews celebrate the gift of the law to Moses at Mt. Sinai on this day. But we, as Catholics celebrate the birth of our Church.

At Pentecost, the Apostles and their followers were gathered in a room. Jews from all over the world were gathered with Peter, the leader of the Apostles and the Eleven. At this time, a great wind blew and a flame appeared as a tongue of fire, which split itself into many individual flames above the heads of all those present. The Holy Spirit came upon these people and each began to speak in tongues. Despite the fact many had no common language, they were perfectly able to understand one another.”

I am always thinking about  what my call to action  and the significance of Pentecost, here are some questions to ponder also:

Why might Pentecost sometimes be regarded as the birth of the Church?

Have you ever had an experience of being aware of the Spirit’s presence/action?

Where in your life could you use the guidance and strength of the Spirit?

A few reminders for the week:

SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY

There will be no school for students on Friday 9th June as all staff will be participating in a full day First Aid training including anaphylaxis training.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

The weather is definitely changing! Although we do not stipulate that winter uniform needs to be worn, please consider encouraging your children to wear their winter uniform on extremely cold days. We realise that Melbourne's weather really can have four seasons in one day so please choose the appropriate uniform to match the weather. Sports uniforms must only be worn on sports days. Winter and Summer uniforms cannot be mixed. If your child chooses to wear their summer uniform, then it’s the correct summer uniform. If they choose winter, then it’s the correct winter uniform.

STUDENTS BRINGING TOYS TO SCHOOL

If students are choosing to bring toys from home, please be mindful that it is the student’s responsibility to look after it. We are asking that students do not play with any toys in the morning. This time is for students to put their bags in their correct lines, and then go on the tiger turf to talk with their friends. It is not playing time, but time to greet friends, have a chat and then as soon as the bell goes, to go inside.

CELEBRATION OF LEARNING

We once again open our classroom doors to our families so that we can share the amazing work we have done round OUR BIG QUESTIONS.  Doors will be open on Thursday 22nd June from 2:40pm. Looking forward to seeing you then!

FIRST EUCHARIST

We wish all of our Year 4 students the very very best as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of  FIRST EUCHARIST  on Sunday 4th June. We welcomed many families on Tuesday evening to our family Faith night where Fr Dishan and Ms Malone spoke to us about this very special Sacrament.   Congratulations to the YEAR 4 students!

Wishing everyone a fantastic week ahead!
