Teaching & Learning

New Semester: Renewed focus

The start of a new Semester is always a great time to reflect on what has been successful so far this year, and what opportunities we have to enhance the teaching and learning occurring in our classrooms across years 7-12.

As part of our Curriculum Day, teachers participated in a range of workshops that looked at how we continue to create what we call a 'positive climate for learning' for all students, every day. This means that we actively worked to look at how we can shift our teaching practice to allow for calmer, more orderly and organised classrooms this Semester that encourage deep learning and engagement. Teachers collaborated on, shared and adapted visual resources around clear routines for students, learnt about how to manage difficult conversations that arise in the profession and also how we keep our Senior school students enjoying school when things get harder academically.  Here is some of the feedback from teachers:

"The most important take away was the importance of structure in the senior classes as a way to engage the students in the lessons. I have implemented more learning intentions, connections to the study design and clear routines in my classes."
"The most important parts out of the workshop was keeping calm in stressful situations, skills for further building relationships and focusing difficult conversations on what's best for the learner"

2024 Subject Selections open now

If you have a child in Year 8 or 9 they have the ability to choose some of the subjects they will study next year as part of our Selective program. All of the information they need can be found on the College website including our detailed subject handbooks. Students are also participating in assemblies this week to help guide them to make selections that:

  • Play to their strengths and interests
  • Give them a variety of subjects across the year
  • Link to potential Senior school or career pathways (Year 9 into 10)

We encourage families to be part of the selection process while also supporting their child's agency and autonomy over their own learning. This year, over 95% of students received the subjects they chose and we expect the same to occur in 2024.

NAPLAN 2023 results

Our 2023 NAPLAN results have arrived and our Year 7 and Year 9 families can expect to receive a hard copy of their child's in the mail from early next week. Unfortunately, the College is not permitted to hand out results to students or families via the front office so please ensure your mailing address is up to date on Compass to avoid delays.

Families will also receive information about how to read and interpret their child

This year, Year 9 NAPLAN certificates of achievement will  also be given to students who met the new 'exceeding' proficiency level for NAPLAN in reading and/or numeracy. These will be mailed out to relevant students with their results.
