Laudato Si' Week

“Humanity still has the ability to work together in building our common home.” Laudato Si’ n.13

Laudato Si' Week is celebrated by people all over the world who care about the environment and want to help protect it. The week is named after an encyclical called Laudato Si', which was written by Pope Francis in 2015 and talks about how important it is to take care of our planet.

During Laudato Si' Week, people come together to learn more about the environment and what we can do to protect it. At St Helena’s our students live by our school value of Care for the Earth, and this is evident in our daily school lives. Students recycle paper as well as their fruit and vegetable scraps for the work farm, and our very active RE Team empty recycling bins and manage the compost and worm farms. Our garden club is open at lunch time daily, and provides students with a valuable opportunity to be connected with how food is grown.

Laudato Si’ Week is important because our planet is facing a lot of challenges like pollution, climate change, and loss of habitat for animals. By coming together and working to make positive changes, we can help protect the environment and make a difference in our world.
