Our Year 1 and 2 students have begun a new initiative at St Helena’s- Junior Sport! Mrs Hesse has been busy working with their teachers creating a program that will build on the children’s gross motor skills.
Gross motor skills are the ability to use large muscle groups to perform coordinated movements. These skills are essential for a child's physical, cognitive, and social development. Skills such as running, jumping, climbing, and throwing help strengthen muscles and bones, improving overall physical health and fitness. Developing gross motor skills can also improve children's coordination and balance. Activities such as balancing on one foot, hopping, and skipping help develop these skills, leading to better overall coordination and balance. This can have a positive impact on daily activities such as walking, running, and playing sports.
