Wellbeing Wednesday

IDAHOBIT Day

On Wednesday 17th May, Ballarat High School held the official launch of Wellbeing Wednesdays. On this day we also celebrated IDAHOBIT, which is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia. IDAHOBIT celebrates LGBTQIA+ people globally and raises awareness for the work still needed to combat discrimination.

IDAHOBIT celebrates Ballarat High School LGBTIQA+ students, colleagues and school community members and challenges the discrimination that they too often experience.

To celebrate both Wellbeing Wednesdays and IDHOBIT we in consultation with our LGBTIQA+ students, had a sausage sizzle which raised approximately $500 for our Pride Group. We also had live music courtesy of our amazingly talented music students and staff.

We were also fortunate enough to host Ange Elson from Tiny Pride and Lance DeBoyle from LaNCE TV. Our pride group students participated in a “quiz show” that allowed them to engage positively with adult LGBTIQA+ members, through a fun activity and learn about exciting opportunities happening for young people in the Ballarat community.
