Calrossy Sport

Calrossy Netball

Calrossy recently entered three teams in the 2023 North West Schools Cup Carnival.

Calrossy Blue, under the guidance of Ms. Tracey Saunders as the coach, competed in the top division against formidable opponents. The team delivered an exceptional performance and achieved an impressive 4th place overall.

Calrossy White remained unbeaten in their division, earning them a spot in the finals against our Calrossy Red team. The girls narrowly missed securing the first place but displayed an outstanding effort throughout the day.

Calrossy Red, comprising competitive Year 7 students, had a remarkable day, winning four out of their five games. As a result, they advanced to the final against the Calrossy White team and emerged victorious.

These girls will now progress to the North West Regional Finals, scheduled for September 20th. We extend our gratitude to Mrs. Mettam for supervising the teams during the tournament. We also express our thanks to coaches Mrs. Emily Lloyd, Mrs. Tiffany Walsh, and Mrs. Tracey Saunders. Additionally, we appreciate the contribution of Charlotte Anderson, Jemima Gray, and Shakaya Fenton for their umpiring services on the day.

HRIS Netball

Calrossy Netball continues to excel in all aspects of the sport, as demonstrated by the recent results from the HRIS Netball Gala Day held at National Park in Newcastle. All three teams progressed from the pool stages to the quarter-finals and secured a place in the top eight.

In the Under 14 category, Calrossy faced tough competition early in the day but managed to advance into the top eight. Although they were narrowly defeated in highly competitive matches against St. Phillips Newcastle and Scone Grammar by a single point in both games, the team displayed their determination and achieved a dominating 15-4 victory over St. Columba. Overall, they secured an impressive 8th place finish. Coach Nicky Aitken expressed delight with the results and commended the students' sportsmanship.

The Calrossy Under 16 team delivered exceptional performances in each of their games. They started with an intense 8-8 draw against St. Columba, setting the tone for the day. In subsequent matches, the team showcased their dominance, securing convincing victories against Heritage (21-8), Macquarie College (22-12), and Bishop Tyrrell (22-13). Despite facing a setback against the tournament winners, Hunter Valley Grammar, with a 33-11 loss, the team rallied and finished strongly with a commendable 26-14 loss against St. Phillips Newcastle. Their consistently outstanding performances against the best teams in the tournament led to an impressive 4th place finish.

The Calrossy Opens team demonstrated their resilience as they emerged from a challenging pool to secure a place in the top eight. In their game against Hunter Valley Grammar, they put up a closely contested match but experienced a 16-14 defeat. Undeterred, the team displayed their strength with resounding victories over Manning Valley (20-10) and Central Coast Sports College (15-11), earning an outstanding 5th place finish overall.

We acknowledge and credit Head Coach Miss Madyson Warren for her hard work with all the Calrossy teams. We are extremely grateful to Miss Warren, Mrs. Aitken, and Miss Boag for their excellent coaching and for accompanying the students on the trip.

HRIS Football Gala Day

The HRIS Football Gala Day took place earlier this month at Maitland Park, Calrossy's team showcased their skill against more fancied rivals and were outstanding in every aspect. The day started with a 1- 0 loss against St Phillips Cessnock, but Calrossy quickly bounced back with an impressive 1- 0 victory over St Phillips Gosford, with Doug Brissett delivering the crucial goal to secure the win. The following game against one of the favourites for the tournament, St Phillips Newcastle, proved to be a challenging one, resulting in a 4 - 0 loss for Calrossy. However, the team swiftly recovered in the next match against Heritage College. Calrossy dominated the game, finishing with a well-deserved 2-0 victory. Both Doug Brissett and Noah Chambers each contributed goals to secure the win.

In the subsequent match against Manning Valley, Calrossy fought valiantly but succumbed to a 3 -1defeat. However, amidst the loss, Max Thompson delivered the goal of the day with a stunning strike from eight yards outside the box. The day concluded on a high note for Calrossy as they faced off against St Phillips, Port Stephens, in a thrilling match, Calrossy emerged victorious with a 2 - 1 scoreline, with goals from Harry Russ and Charlie Carter.

A big congratulations to the team also for their conduct and sportsmanship on the day. Their respect for their opponents and officials set an exemplary standard for fair play.
