Assistant Principals News

Dear Parents,

‘Your hardest times often lead to our Greatest Moments’ Roy Bennett

During this time of change and upheaval we wish to acknowledge the hard work of our staff. Lessons for all of our students have seamlessly moved to the online format and the results of a student survey sent last week highlight that our students appreciate the hard work and efforts of the MCC Staff.

Students have also indicated that the quality of lessons is still rigorous and allows them to engage with their peers and teachers through a different format. All of our seniors classes are zoomed so that our teaching and learning cycle is still utilised and students are able to engage with revision and drafting as Preliminary Assessments and HSC examinations become closer.

Parents will receive Non Engagement Letters from staff if there are any concerns regarding student engagement with their learning. If you receive one of these notifications we encourage you to communicate with the relevant teacher or Leader of Learning about how you can support your child moving forward.

Student wellbeing is also an area of significant focus. We understand the impact the current situation has upon the wellbeing of staff, students and families at this time. Staff are continuously communicating with the Pastoral team to ensure that students of concern are being supported and receiving access to the relevant interventions. If you are worried about your child please contact the relevant Pastoral leader so that the College can support you as best a possible.

Speaking of offering support, after consulting with the other schools in our Diocese, the College has made changes to the proposed Preliminary Examinations. Instead of a two week official examination period, Year 11 students will continue classes until the end of next week, before using Week 10 as an opportunity to complete a range of alternative assessments, most of which will occur online during a 45 minute session.

A schedule was sent to all parents and students earlier this week. I encourage all students to plan out their schedule for week ten and to begin to engage in revision and study. If any student has any concerns or questions please contact your Pastoral Leader.

Hopefully we will be able to join together for classes again soon, in the interim enjoy time with your family and get outside to capitalise on the beautiful weather.

Yours in Learning,

Lora Segrave and Damien Herb
