Out and about with Mr Walsh

Principal Report

At this stage last week we were busy preparing for our COVIDSafe Art Show and excited to be inviting families back into the school and in a matter of 48 hours we are again preparing for remote and flexible learning! As a school community we were very grateful to have this experience and shows that with some extra planning and flexibility we can continue to organise events in a different way and engage with our wonderful school community. It was a very successful event and we want to thank Mrs Mercer, the Art Captains, the Tour Guides, Mrs Mewett, Mr Murphy and Mr Morzinek and all of the staff and students for their hard work. Please check out our Art Show 'Aussie Escape' page in the newsletter for photos and video of this inspiring event. We especially want to thank our community for your continued support and it was very overwhelming to receive such positive feedback.

However, we have quickly re-entered the world of remote learning and I want to thank the staff, students and families for their continued flexibility and support of our learning program. We want nothing more than to have our students back in the classroom but we all continue to evolve and work in the best possible way to engage our students in their learning opportunities and keep our community safe and healthy. Please continue to create the learning environment that suits your situation and your family and keep communication open. As a school community you continue to amaze us with your spirit and support of each other. Please remember to reach out for any support if required. Below are some Department of Education resources that are available for families.

BOOKWEEK - Virtual Event

Classes have continued to support and endorse 'Book Week' during their remote learning activities and we encourage where possible for our students to dress up on Friday as their Book Week character and engage in some fun with their class and family. We encourage all of our families to spend some time to choose a favourite book and share it together as a family and please check out our school Facebook page so we can have some fun together as a school community by posting your bookweek photos. We will have a bookweek dress up day for our kids when we return to on-site learning.

We are keeping this booking open until the last minute (you never know stranger things have happened) but if we are not back on-site we will again look for an alternative date. Thank you to our parents who have volunteered to assist on the day and Mr Cunningham for his persistance!

Keeping our community COVIDSafe

The Victorian Government, Department of Health Services and The Department of Education continue to have specific measures in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our local community. We can all do our part in the following ways:

We have the following in place at Surfside PS to ensure the health and safety of our school community as advised by the Department of Education:

  • All adults, staff and visitors to the school are required to wear a face mask when indoors and outdoors
  • Continue good health and hygiene practice by washing hands regularly, coughing or sneezing into your elbow and using hand sanitiser regularly.
  • When unwell it is essential that you remain home, seek medical advice and be tested if required.
  • Ensure 1.5m physical distancing when required.
  • Please sign in to the school using the Services Victoria QR code when in attendance - more information below
  • Get vaccinated if you are eligible

For further support please visit the DHS Coronavirus webpage

Continue to stay safe and healthy throughout 2021.
