Textiles at Killester

Textiles this term has been challenging but rewarding, the Year 7 classes continued to learn about fibres and fabrics, some students explored fabric construction and created weaving patterns with whatever they could find. Some classes even learnt about fashion drawing. The Year 7 students also began researching and designing their wallets.

Year 8 and 9 students created mood boards reflecting their personal style. They also investigated Peter Alexander and pyjamas before designing their own. They learnt about getting ready for production by selecting fabrics and creating a story board for their design.

These are some of the comments students made about their investigation into Peter Alexander.

‘……….. Alexander states that the confidence and self-belief was determined from his school life and he was able to set high goals and achieve them independently. Despite having learning issues at school and not going to university’ Jessele

‘Learning from Peter Alexander’s life, I’ve realised that hitting rock bottom isn’t always the end of something. By picking yourself up and finding another solution, that is how you can grow as a person which is to be positive and resilient.’ Joyce

Dear Peter Alexander,

Learning about your story, I was super interested about how your business came to be. Starting out can always be super hard and with many triumphs and challenges along the way. You had turned your biggest setback into an opportunity that changed your life forever. ……………………….. A person who does what he loves and is truly passionate about it. Kelly
