Tree Planting - written by Hardy Croucher (Year Eleven)
On 7 June, I got to accompany the tree planting VACS group on their trip to ALAC, where they met up with some people who work for the City of Albany to do some tree planting for the city. They all enjoyed getting their hands dirty as they dug holes, de-potted the trees, tucked them with soil, and dug in stakes next to them with a post driver. Even when it got a little bit rainy in the end their spirits were high as we got on the bus and went back to school.
I interviewed some students as they were planting trees, and they all said they were happy to help make the City of Albany a livelier and more natural place and help in planting trees that create fresh air for all of us to breath.
St John's Gardening – written by Owen Baxter-Holland (Year Eleven)
On 7 June, I was lucky enough to get to look at and assist with what was happening in the St John's Gardening club. The members of this club are traveling to St John's Church every Wednesday and maintaining the grounds of the church by blowing leaves, trimming hedges and weeding.
I interviewed a few of the participants and they all stated that they enjoyed coming out to the church, helping the Albany community by cleaning up the church and using all of the supplied power tools to wreak havoc on the garden beds.

The many kids were working really hard to please their teachers.

Crochet group update – written by Max Cruse (Year Eight), Leo Payne (Year Eight) and Fergus Stephens (Year Eight)
On 21 June media correspondents went to the VACS crochet club. The club was preparing blankets for unfortunate people. The blankets were crocheted by the students and then sent off to either the Albany Hospice or the Albany Wildlife Reserve.
Lily Hall and Katelyn Ferry said that they really enjoyed crocheting because they know how much these blankets will help people in the Hospice.
"We feel that this activity is very rewarding as we know that it is going to a great cause,” they said.

This week at the Hunger Heroes the group was selling Croc charms to raise money for the homeless. They were selling food themed charms in relation to their past fundraisers.
This idea came from Ms Valleri, who said that she wants them to sell and raise money for the homeless. All involved had a great time and enjoyed helping out for a good cause.
