Principal News

As I type this entry of our Newsletter I am thinking about our Year 3 students and staff who are away on at the Briars for their first school camp. I am sure they will be having a great time together doing lots of great outdoor adventure activities, have a fun time with their cabin mates and eating delicious food. We look forward to them coming back to school tomorrow so that we can hear all about their adventures.

Last week I attended a network meeting with other local Principals to discuss what is happening in our schools and Department of Education Priorities. During this meeting we dedicated some conversation time to Maths and Numeracy and looked at what the latest research is indicating when it comes to to supporting students to become confident in numeracy. There were many key points that I took away from this and one highlight was how important it is for students to be able to apply their maths knowledge in real life situations. At school we play maths games and set up problem solving situations for students to apply their math skills. It is important for children to see the maths that comes into play in every day life situations. At home, activities such as cooking, budgeting, measuring etc provide great opportunities for parents/carers to talk through the maths involved in these types of activities.

We have come to the end of Term 2. Please remember that the last day of term is an early dismissal time of 2.30pm. I would like to wish all families an enjoyable school holiday break.
