Senior School Inter-School Sport

Years 5 and 6 students participated in the Senior School Inter-School Sport Winter program. The program ran on Fridays from 9am to 11am from 28 April to 16 June. Students competed in AFL, Soccer, Teeball, Netball, Ultimate Frisbee, Bootball and Lawn Bowls in the Winter competition.

Frisbee B Final

On the last day of Term 2 we participated in the finals of Ultimate Frisbee. The school we played against was Glendal Primary School. We sadly lost 2-3, but it was a very fun match. All of this wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing coach Miss Lin, thank you.   Nina & Christian

AFL 9s Final

We are part of the AFL 9s team. On 23rd June we played the finals against Mount Scopus, we were very nervous and it was muddy. We won the game after a great goal from Zach in the last ten seconds, with a nice ruck tap from Kirk.

We would like to thank Zerrin’s Dad for coaching us, Zach’s Mum for scoring and goal umpiring and last but not least Mrs Hocking for organising Interschool Sport.

100 students qualified to represent EHPS at the Mulgrave District Cross Country event. Qualifying students trained well before school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Ninety-six children from Years 3 to 6 represented EHPS on a chilly morning at Mirrabooka Reserve in Blackburn South. They should all be very proud of their efforts, completing the 2km or 3km course. Overall, we placed 4th in the District.

Congratulations to Nathan G, Zerrin A, Georgia A, Irene G, Max O, Ryan W, Damon H, Mavi A and Jayan C who placed in the top 12, qualifing them to participate in the Monash Waverley Division Cross Country on 31st May.

Thank you to Miss Cordell, Miss Lin, Miss Boles and Mr A for supervising and marshalling the students. Also, a huge thanks to Hilary, Carol, Jonna, Arun, Nicole and John for volunteering to marshall on the track. Your assistance was greatly appreciated!

I competed in the 12/13 boys’ race and placed 8th. It was a good opportunity to represent Essex Heights. It was a good day at Mirrabooka Reserve versing the other schools. The Monash Waverley Division event is on Wednesday. Good luck to Ryan, Jayan, Damon, Mavi, Zerrin, Georgia, Irene, Max and me.

District Cross Country was on Wednesday. It was muddy and challenging at times, but everyone finished the course. I placed 35th in my race and I was proud of my achievements. We would like to thank the parents who helped on the day. I wish the students competing at the division event good luck for their races.

I competed in the 12/13 boys’ race and placed 30th at Monash Waverley Division event. I was proud of myself for finishing the race as I tripped over and hurt my knee but kept going.   Nathan

On Wednesday 24th May I went to district cross country, I competed in the 3km 11-year girls’ race. I had a lot of fun and came 4th. On 31st May I went to division, there were lots of schools there and about 80 girls in my race. I tried my best and came 27th but I had a fun day running with my friends.   Georgia

I had an enjoyable time but I was very nervous. In the race I placed 12th, which means I just made it to Regionals. I was coming 7th but sadly at the end I tripped over. Overall, it was a great experience.   Damon

A few weeks ago, I competed in District Cross country in the Under 11 boys. I came 7th in district.  After District I progressed to the next round called Division cross country. It was really hard in the race because I was in 14th place with about 600 metres to go but worked up to 10th place and got overtaken with 15 metres to go. I finished at 11th place and only the top 12 to go through to region.  I would like to thank Mrs Hocking and everyone else who came along and helped, I hope I do well in Region Cross country.   Max

I represented Essex Heights at cross country.  In district I ran my hardest and made it into division where I came 19th. It was a fun morning hanging out with all the Essex kids and seeing friends from other schools.   Zerrin

I would like to thank Mrs. Hocking, my Mum and Dad and Mr. Perini, as well as all the other helpers because we couldn’t have done it without them.  I came 11th at district and at division I came 22nd. I’m proud of myself because I fell over at division but got back up to finish the race.   Mavi

I had lots of fun running at Division Cross Country in the same race as Zerrin and Georgia. Thank you to my mum for driving and supporting me. I came 14th and just missed out on going to Region.   Irene

I was excited to be running at the Division Cross Country and sprinted to the finish line to place 10th which qualified me for the regional event. I am looking forward to competing at Yarra Glen Racecourse.   Ryan

Years 3 to 6 House Athletics

Years 3 to 6 students competed in their House at the House Athletics on Tuesday 6 June at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track in Burwood East.

It was a sea of bright colours as the students participated in several individual events during the morning, which included long jump, triple jump, shot put, hurdles, 800m run, 100m sprint, discus and high jump. The children moved around the events in their age group teams.

The Essex Heights spirit came alive when the children were cheering loudly for their teammates during the events. They were supporting other age groups while they were waiting for their turn, especially when students were running around the track twice in the 800m race.

It was great to see everyone having fun and supporting their house.

Thanks to all the staff who helped throughout the day with marshalling, measuring and timing the activities. Special thanks to Mrs Cotterell and Mr Perini for presenting the top four placegetters with their ribbons and Miss Boles for assisting with the equipment before and after the events.

A massive thank you to the following parent volunteers for assisting with the events too:  John & Nadeeka Colley, Brett & Cindy Wood, Christine Smith, Louise Bentley, Karen Granig, Richard Bradley, Lin Li, Kim Doan, Katherine Popov, Pia Ahmet, Jack Si, Duoli Li, Eric Huang, Jeetendra Jaya, Jenni Dowling, Supun Abeysuriya, Joman Lin and Zhao Guan.

Special mention to my sister Danielle and son Nathan, for giving up their time to help set up and time the hurdles, and Jo Yeaman’s son Daniel for helping too.

Region Cross Country

Damon H, Max O and Ryan W represented EHPS and the Monash Waverley Division at the Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country event on Tuesday 13 June. The event was held at the Yarra Glen Racecourse.

I had a great but challenging experience at Regional Cross Country. It was a very muddy and slippery course but I’m very proud of my efforts. I came 72nd out of 100 boys and I sprinted at the end to pass a couple of boys. I can’t wait to try again next year when I run 3km.   Damon

On the 13th of June I competed in the 11 and under boys at Regionals cross country at Yarra Glen Racecourse. It was a very high standard, and the pace was very fast from the start. Whilst I didn’t finish as high as I would like I was happy that I gave it my all. I learnt a lot and can’t wait to come back next year for another go.  I would like to thank Mrs Hocking for supporting me and my parents for driving me to the venue.   Max

On 13th of June, I went to Eastern Metropolitan Regionals Cross Country. I went with Max and Damon, I placed 48th in the 9/10 boys and I think I did very well considering it was a high paced race.

Thank you to Ms Hocking for setting up the whole cross country over these weeks and thank you to Mr Perini and the helpers for helping.   Ryan W

Congratulations Max, Ryan and Damon for your amazing efforts at the Region Cross Country event, running at the Yarra Glen Racecourse. You should be extremely proud of your achievements in all four cross country events, starting with our House Cross Country in the first week of term. Fantastic running!

District AFL Gala Day

22 Year 5 and Year 6 students participated in the Mulgrave District AFL Gala Day on Friday 14 July at Mount Scopus College.

On Friday 14th July we had an AFL round robin match against other schools in our district. We trained hard for the match and our efforts paid off. We performed amazingly, winning a game, and staying strong despite versing tough opponents and injuries. It was a fun experience and we hope the year fours and fives have as much fun as we did, next year.

Some of us had never played before, so we were really grateful for the support. We would like to thank everyone who helped and organised the team, Brad, Kirk’s Dad who coached us, and Mrs Hocking. Also, Kirin’s Dad and Zerrin’s Mum for their support.
