Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

Three weeks into term and we are travelling very well into relation to the management of our COVID safe plan.  An enormous thank you to all of our parents for your amazing work on administering two rapid tests for your children each week, and as you will have seen by the steady flow of XUNO messages, parents have been very swift in notifying us of positive cases.

It would appear as a lay person that this is the way things will be for a while and the students and staff are adapting very well to the scenario presented to us. One issue that is present for all schools is a shortage of emergency teachers or Casual Relief Teachers (CRTs). Whilst every effort is made to find CRTs when school-based staff are absent, this shortage means we may not always be successful. In cases such as this we manage using staff on-site however, this may mean some disruption to scheduled classes from time to time.  Your understanding on this is appreciated.

Last week our student leaders led their first school assembly and they did an outstanding job.  They led us through the acknowledgement of country, the national anthem and then an explanation of the Houses for all students and their respective mascots.  No doubt their confidence will develop each week as they become more accustomed to their role.  A big congratulations to them and a reminder that parents are welcome to join us for our outside assemblies each Monday at 9:05am via the gate near the prep rooms, by showing the vaccination certificate and logging in using our QR code. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as can make it.

You will notice in the Important Dates and Information section of our newsletter that our 'Meet and Greet' sessions for parents are fast approaching.  These will be held on Tuesday March 1st and Thursday March 10th. The emphasis of these meetings are for parents/caregivers to inform your child/ren's classroom teacher and specialist teachers any information relevant to their learning.  This may include learning habits, social habits, and concerns you may have and any other information you believe will support them. Please keep an eye out for a XUNO message alerting you to when bookings can be made.

Finally, this week is the first week of inter-school sport for which our grade 5 and 6 students have been training.  Of course winning is not everything and we wish all of our students the very best in representing our school, trying their very best and living our school values.  In particular Teamwork, Respect and Resilience.  Other students have been hard at it also with Sport Education now a regular feature of every class each week in addition to the one hour of physical education each grade receives from Mrs. Wishart.

With the weather still quite warm, please remind your child/ren that they require a school hat each day in term one.

Regards,

Simon McGlade
