Spirit of Boarding Awards

Last Sunday night after Mass, we presented the Boarding Spirit Awards for the year. These awards are presented to one student from each boarding residence who upholds the values and beliefs of the residence's patron. Students receiving these awards have consistently displayed traits that have made our boarding community a better place for their presence.

Congratulationsto our 2022 Spirit of Boarding Award recipients:

Junior girls (Chavoin Residence) - Shauna Sagigi.

Junior boys (Burke Residence) - Zai Laifoo.

Middle school girls (Geaney Residence) - Ella Bosuen.

Middle school boys  (Ambrose Residence) - Gus Rolfe.

Transition and Orientation Day

We look forward to welcoming our new Year 7, 2023 students into the boarding residences next Wednesday 16 November.  Students will participate in our First Nations Day on that Wednesday, have their first night in boarding, and then take part in Orientation Day at their respective colleges the next day.

End of the School Year

The end of school for St Augustine’s and St Monica’s is Friday 25 November. This is an eight-week term and, like all other terms, every day student and weekly boarder is expected to be in class until the final day of term.

Ms King and Mr Carswell are preparing departures with Abstudy for our First Nations students who will be travelling home in the last week of term. Friday November 25 is a travel day for boarders who have to travel long distances by air or road.

If students have underlying circumstances that require an early departure, they must contact their year-level  coordinators at Saints or St Monica’s. Leave request forms must also be submitted, and the relevant principal will sign them.

It is important that flight itineraries for travelling home are sent to respective heads of residence well before the end of term so transport can be coordinated.

Free Weekend

This weekend is a free weekend in boarding. Students who have organised the weekend out would have submitted a leave request in REACH and had this approved by parents and their head of residence. Those opting to stay in boarding will enjoy the day at Sugarworld Adventure Park on Saturday.

Saturday Outing

Eighty-five students and six staff enjoyed an active Saturday outing last weekend. They ventured to Nandroya Falls and walked to the swimming area under a beautiful waterfall. This was accompanied by burgers for lunch to make a splendid day out. We look forward to another two weekend outings before the end of term.

2023 Boarding Appointments

With the growing number of girls in boarding over the past few years, there will be two heads of residence for our girls next year. We are pleased to announce the following  appointments:

Ms Renee Luff will be  Head of the Senior Girls Residence Years 10-12. Ms Luff is an experienced teacher having taught at Freshwater Christian College for the past 15 years. She has a welcoming nature, kind heart and a good understanding of student needs which will be an asset to the girls residence.

Mrs Desiree Price will be Head of the Junior Girls Residence Years 7-9. Mrs Price is already a boarding supervisor at St Augustine’s and a learning enrichment officer at St Monica’s. She has developed a good rapport with the girls and has proven to be an enthusiastic and caring supervisor.
