Saints Youth Theatre

Saints Youth Theatre students performed on Wednesday evening at St Monica’s studio.  This performance is a culmination of their work over term 3 & 4.  This year each group had to do a short skit introducing themselves and the name of their group.  Some interesting names such as The Bouncy Tyres and the Graham Crackers made for some entertaining skits.

Next, students had to do a devised short skit with the theme “Take me to your leader”, followed by a two-minute improvisation with death as the theme and they were given an item to include in the improv.  We had scenes from Camalot, world control using the Nutbush and boring teachers with cranky principals whacking students with canes.  There were some highly entertaining skits with some brilliant one liners. Students'  efforts were workshopped by visiting professionals who advised them about their comedic delivery and timing.

The winning team was The Bouncy Tyres, consisting of Matthew Fillipone, Jayden Marino (Saints) and Carlin Maher (St Monica’s). The Best Entertainer was Jack Brunetto with honourable mentions to Graham O’Donoghue and Jonathan O’Farrell. Well done on a wonderfully entertaining evening.

Music Workshops

On Thursday last week, the Combined Saints Colleges Concert Band workshopped together with the St Theresa’s band for the afternoon. Students worked in their own groups, in a combined group and sang together. After school, the students performed to an audience of appreciative family and friends on the courts outside Lennon Hall. All had a wonderful time and learnt a lot of new things. Many thanks to Mr Matthew Chandler (SAC & SMC), Mr Chris Burcin (SMC), Ms Leesa Cooke (SMC) and Mrs Rebecca Austin (St Theresa’s) for the generosity of their time to make this happen.

Awards Evening

Saints is truly blessed to have so many wonderful teachers and students who can make a night such as the Awards Night run so smoothly and provide such great entertainment.  The Saints Percussion Ensemble led the evening with Mr Calaeb Anderson at the helm. The Saints Choir sang “Laudate Dominum” under the baton of Mr Chris Burcin. Lucas De Roma performed a captivating excerpt from Macbeth to a completely silent audience. To finish off the evening, Saints Big Band performed “String of Pearls”. The Awards Evening was the last performance for our dedicated Year 12 students, and we are grateful to them for their contribution to our program over the past six years. What a great way to finish up.
