NEWS FROM THE 3/4 'GREEN TEAM'

PYJAMA DAY FOR GRADE 1

In Year One, we have been learning all about the seasons as part of our Humanities Unit. On Friday the 10th of June, our Year One students celebrated the cold weather with a Pyjama Day. We brought in our teddy bears for a sleepover and discovered that they got up to a lot of mischief overnight. It was a lot of fun and we all really enjoyed it.

GRADE 3/4 EXCURSION

On Wednesday, 8th of June, 3/4D and 3/4E went on an excursion to CERES. CERES is a garden, and we learnt about the Aboriginal culture. We did three sessions. First, we went to a classroom with Auntie Cathy. We acted out Tiddalick the Frog and learnt about different artefacts, including; Didgeridoo, Yam stick, Possum skin, Tarnuk, Yidaky, and the Boomerang. Then, for our second activity we did painting with ochre, a special rock. We painted a story on our arms, with Aboriginal symbols. Subik, our instructor, painted our faces if we wanted. They represented different things for boys and girls. For our third and final activity we did a bush tucker. We ate Lemon Myrtle, Pig face, saltbush, and then river mint. My favourite was saltbush.

We had lots of fun at CERES. Lots of people hope to go back.

GRADE 2 EXCURSION

The Year 2's went on an exciting trip to the Sealife Aquarium in the city.

As part of our unit on Why is Water Important?  The Year 2's visited the Aquarium to learn about our oceans and rivers and view the aquatic life that live in them.  We learnt about how we can all play a part in keeping our waterways free of rubbish and other pollutants so we can protect these diverse, interesting and beautiful animals.  We discussed how to reuse, recycle and eliminate waste and to dispose of it responsibly.  Amongst other animals, we watched the penguins waddling on land and diving gracefully into the water, we marvelled at the weedy sea dragons, we spotted clown fish darted in and out of the anemones and gazed at the sharks and rays swimming effortlessly in the enormous dome tank.  Thank you to the parent helpers from each class who accompanied us on our excursion.  We really appreciate your help.  Well done to all the Year 2's for demonstrating the CEPS Values. You did CEPS proud!

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART - JUMP OFF DAY

Our jump off day for Jump Rope for Heart was held Thursday 16th June. Thankfully the weather was on our side today!  The students came outside to skip and jump and show their tricks and partner jumps to each other.  They had a wonderful time skipping while we had music booming in the background.

This now signifies the end of the Jump Rope for Heart program. It is now time for me to send off all the online registrations.  Prizes for students who raised $35 or more will be delivered to them (via school) in Term 3.  Thank you to all that supported this program.

We raised close to three thousand dollars ($2843). A huge effort by all and more importantly we are helping to raise awareness to stay fit and healthy.

GREENHOUSE PROJECT

Thank you to everyone who has already donated their spare plastic bottles so far, we are well on our way to getting the greenhouse up and running.

We still need more bottles, so please continue to bring in your spare 1.25L and 2L bottles and put them in the donation box at the office.

Please make sure to rinse the bottles before bringing them in so there is no spillage.

INTERSCHOOL SPORTS LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP

Congratulations to the CEPS Girls Soccer team who braved the inclement weather today to play against seven other schools. The girls displayed the school values and put in so much effort as they won four of their games.

Results from todays lightning premiership will be published next week.

MARINE AMBASSADORS

On Tuesday this week our Marine Ambassadors learnt about what happens to rubbish when it gets into our waterways. We saw some rubbish traps in action both at wetlands and down by Mordialloc Pier, and learnt how they get emptied.  These students will be coming up with a project next term to help stop rubbish from reaching the waterways to begin with - stay tuned!
