Magis report

Was great to see the Year 7 students getting into House spirit as part of the Homeroom Magis Challenge this week. Student representatives from each Homeroom took part in a quiz which tested their Humanities, Art, Languages and Literature general knowledge.

Congratulations to the Year 7 winners:

  1. Ella Harney (Loreto)
  2. Daisy Martin (Loreto); and Charlie Lennon (Kooly)
  3. Claudia Willcock (Loreto); Sophie Calder (Ward); Christopher Cooney (Loyola); Jonah Liew (Loyola); and Alyssa Mignacca (St Louis)

Good luck to the Year 11 and 12 student representatives who’s turn it will be next week!

Round 5 of WADL Debating continued via the Zoom platform on Tuesday evening – with some narrow wins and narrow losses across our Novice and Junior Teams. All teams performed admirably, and I congratulate all our debaters on an outstanding effort. I would like to thank the parents who came to support the students…and to a very friendly bird who was very taken with watching the Year 8’s debate on the subject of organ transplants.

There are a few rescheduled debates which will be taking place over the next couple of weeks – and so all teams are reminded that they must check the WA Debating League website for up-to-date fixtures, as well as their respective Teams pages. Round 6 fixtures can be accessed via Teams. Junior and Senior team debates will continue as impromptu, whilst the Novice teams will be debating on whether there should be a requirement for equal media coverage of men’s and women’s sport.

Next week our Year 7 and 8 Magis students will be displaying their Personal Projects in an exhibition held at the Thomas More Exhibition Centre. This will mark the culmination of many months of hard work and planning - and I very much look forward to sharing with students, staff, and parents in the celebration of our talented students.

You can keep up to date with Magis and Altiora events by following the Term 2 calendar – which can be accessed by clicking on the link below.
