Around The Primary

Dear Parents

Winter is here! It is that time of the year when the season change brings winter colds and flus that spread easily and filter through the school community. It is important to keep your children at home when they are unwell to ensure that they recuperate and get over their illness before returning to school.  Attached is a handy ‘I Need To Stay Home If’ guideline.

The Year 1 Assembly this morning was another moment when you could clearly see all the elements of quality Catholic Education in action.  It was so wonderful to see how proud the Year 1 students were of their performance on the stage. They read beautifully and added to the performance with their superb singing and fun dance moves.

Congratulations to Mrs Thomas, Miss Pillera, Ms McKeague and Mrs Haydon for initiating such a positive learning experience for our students. It was wonderful to see so many parents and grandparents at our first Assembly for the year.

Kindy interviews for 2024 are now in full swing! It is delightful talking with families about their children.  I have met with many new families all wanting the very best for their children and it is always a pleasure to be able to reassure them that they have arrived at an excellent school.

Thank you to all our families who are supporting our school by ensuring that students are coming to school in the correct uniform. It has been pleasing to see the children dressed so smartly in their uniform with neat and tidy hair. Just a reminder, please ensure your child's jumper and tracksuit jacket are clearly labelled.

Our next Primary Assembly is on Friday 17 June. This Assembly is kindly being prepared by Year 6. Everyone is welcome to join us in Roncalli Hall at 9am.

Kind regards

Sports Update

Interhouse Basketball

As part of our Primary House Day celebrations last Friday, Bendat Basketball Centre was full of the College House colours and sporting spirit for our Year 5 & 6 basketball tournament!  The standard of play was excellent but the sportsmanship on display stole the show!  Everyone got involved and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

Cross Country

The turnout to the cross-country training has been fantastic so far!  Rain, hail or shine, training will be on!  If it is too wet, we will be in the gym.  Please note, there is no training on Thursday 23 June.

Congratulations

Well done to Kiran Finn (6G) who has been selected in the 12 and under State Hockey team!  He will be representing WA in Canberra in August.  Best of luck Kiran!

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.dese.gov.au/about-us/resources/department-education-skills-and-employment-complete-privacy-policy-0).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
