Years 2 and 3 String Concert

The Years 2 and 3 String Program Presentation was held on Tuesday 21 June.  Parents and staff were delighted to have an overview of the Program.

The presentation demonstrated what had been covered in the Years 2 and 3 String Program as well as some of the important aspects of beginner string development.

The students performed happily to their audience, showcasing their ability to hold the instrument and bow correctly and to pluck and play the open strings with various short melodies. A big thank you to the parents and staff for their support.

Year 5 Band Concert

Jerome McClimont, Year 5

On Thursday 16 June, all of Year 5 participated in the Year 5 Band Concert. We played saxophone, clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, trombone and percussion.

I really enjoyed playing ‘Listen to Our Sections’ which features all of the band instruments. Each instrument got to play a short solo in the piece.

Winter Concert

Milta Lu, Year 6

Performed by students in Year 8 and below, the Winter Concert was held on Wednesday 15 June. There was a good crowd in attendance, with parents, friends and students all in one hall ready to watch the performance.

We had many fabulous and entertaining performances from our musicians: the Junior String Orchestra, a soloist playing the violin, Kilvington Klefs choir, a soloist pianist, the fantastic Junior Percussion Ensemble, Suzuki Intermezzo Strings, Solo Saxophone Performance, Junior Guitar Ensemble and so many more!

I performed as a member of the Years 5 and 6 Choir. It was nice to have a face-to-face Winter Concert as we'd all missed out on the 2020 and 2021 Winter Concert. This may be the first Kilvington concert after lockdown! Overall, I enjoyed all the songs played and sung on the night.

Composer’s Competition

Charley Johnston (Junior School Music Leader) and Nirvi Bijwal (Junior School Digital Leader)

Recently, we've been hosting the Composer’s Competition. Students were invited to use digital apps to create original music compositions. They selected and recorded loops on GarageBand and layered parts together to create their piece.

This has been a great success with 16 students participating in the competition. After four weeks of preparation from all students, we are excited to announce the top two winners.

In 1st place is Farees Huda-Rahman (Year 5), with a really cool piece of music. In 2nd place, due to the close scores, is Muskan Kapoor (Year 4) and Ava Cheong-See (Year 4). They presented a great piece of music that also included their voices singing their own lyrics.

The scores were very tight between all teams. These scores were based on structure, creativity and musicality. We would like to thank all students who participated for their hard work and dedication towards this competition.
