Year 2 Scienceworks museum excursion

Anna Rowe, Year 2 Classroom Teacher

On Tuesday 14 June, Year 2 students went on an excursion to the Scienceworks museum. For our History unit, we had been focusing on changes in technology  over time.

We were lucky enough to visit the Lightning Room and see a special presentation on how electricity and technology have evolved.

After lunch, we then were able to tour the museum in small groups. Many thanks to the parents who came along with us. It was such a wonderful day.

Year 5 build augmented reality solar system

Celestine Yeung, Digital Technologies Teacher

Year 5 students STEM-ed out into space this term! Using their new-found knowledge about the solar system from Science and coding skills in Digital Technologies, students programmed and built their very own solar system in augmented reality using CoSpaces.

Not only can you interact with the virtual creation in the physical world via your device, you can also learn about each planet by tapping or hovering over them.

To view each students' solar system, simply download the CoSpaces EDU App on your device, then scan a QR code from this link.

Junior School celebrates Foundation Day

This week, our Junior School celebrated Foundation Day with an acknowledgement of the Founders of Kilvington Grammar, Caroline and Constance Barrett, who bravely established the School during difficult times in 1923 - post the Great War and before the Great Depression.

In 2023, we will celebrate our Centenary! We look forward to sharing a year of celebrations, historical mementos, milestones and events with our entire Kilvington community. Stay tuned!

Kilvington Mentor Matching Pilot Program for Years 10 and 11

This week, we held the first briefing sessions of our Kilvington Mentor Matching Pilot Program.

Our Mentor Matching Program will offer a group of Years 10 and 11 students the opportunity to be matched with a member of our alumni based on the students' industry-specific and/or career navigation interests.

The Mentor and their matched Mentee will meet up to four times, either face-to-face or online, commencing in July and concluding in September 2022. At the end of the year, we will review the impact of the Program with the goal of an expanded program launching in 2023.

We are very excited about linking former students with current students and adding value to our students’ preparation for life after Kilvington.

The mentor matching program is an amazing initiative that will give both mentees and mentors a chance to connect with each other. Being able to provide a glimpse into our journey through tertiary education, seeking career pathways and broader experiences will be such an exciting opportunity for us mentors.’ - Elisabeth Yeo, School Captain, 2019

‘The Mentor Matching Program holds great promise as a platform to connect Kilvington alumni and students embarking into VCE and university.' - Charan Naidoo, former School Captain (2017)

'Great networking opportunity.'  – Charlotte Westaway, Year 11

'Thanks for the opportunity!! The program sounds great I’m really looking forward to it.' – Abbey Huynh, Year 11

Attached are further details of the program.
