Outdoor Education
With the warm weather long behind us, we thought we would take the opportunity to reflect on the Outdoor Education Program from Term 1. The year kicked off with the Year 9 Surf Camp which took place at both Phillip Island and Inverloch. Students enjoyed two surf lessons conducted by qualified instructors and spent an evening camping and enjoying the company of their peers.
The Year 8 groups were the next to venture out, spending the day at Portsea; snorkeling at Pope’s Eye and swimming with the seals. Students also gained an insight into Melbourne’s history with an explanation of how and why Port Phillip Bay and in particular, Pope’s Eye was created.
The final Outdoor Education experience for Term 1 was the Year 10 Camp and Activity Week. Students were able to select from a variety of camps and activities. These included a coastal bike ride and surfing at Phillip Island, stand up paddle boarding and surfing at Inverloch or caving, river sledding and kayaking near Warburton. All of these Year 10 camps were complemented with a day of Driver Education and a personal development day.
Looking ahead, students from Year 9 will participate in a city experience during Term 3 and choose from a range of outdoor activities in Term 4. Our final camp with be the Year 7 Camp which was postponed from Term 1. This will take place in the final week of the school year. Details of these activities will follow shortly.
