Learning Diversity

The coming holidays will provide a much needed rest for the entire Mazenod College community after our first full semester of onsite learning following the disruptions of the global pandemic. The initial excitement of being back with friends and colleagues soon made way for the realities of being back at school. The demands of daily attendance, and work requirements as well as the re learning of the rules and routines of school, has required patience and resilience on everyone’s part. The impact of COVID-19 on our existing ideas around schooling has generated discussion regarding the ways in which we may see education changing in the future. There will be many studies into the ongoing effects on student wellbeing, engagement and learning outcomes however in the immediate, there is little doubt that staff have responded to these needs and continue to work hard to engage and develop their students.

For the Learning Diversity team, the students who require additional support and personalised learning plans to fully access their learning remain a priority. This was evident during the pandemic lockdowns, and is equally visible as students transition back to onsite learning.

To this end, I acknowledge the work of the education support staff - teachers and learning support officers, who have been tireless in their work, alongside teaching staff, to assist students.

In 2022, through a partnership with Monash University, established by Dr Matthew Fyfield (Deputy Principal Teaching & Learning), we have been able to secure the expertise of three preservice teachers who are undertaking the Accelerated Master’s Program in Education. Nives Milanovic, Natalie Ilievski and Szeyu Chen are working in a support role across Maths and Science classes and are a welcome addition to the team. We also welcome Jeynelle Molinaro and Fletcher Ford as part time learning support officers.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data

In August, the College will again be submitting the relevant information to CECV regarding our NCCD students. It is important to ensure that all stakeholders are informed about this process. This important parent/guardian/caregiver  information sheet is provided by the Commonwealth Government and can also be accessed in the following languages.

Wishing you all a wonderful break with your families.
