Dear Parents/Guardians

The greatest challenges to the world students at Mazenod will experience are the result of technological advances and the extreme acceleration in the pace of change associated with communications. Many of the students beginning at Mazenod today will ultimately work in jobs that do not yet exist. Mazenod will need to be agile to meet these challenges, positioning graduates at the greatest advantage while giving them a well-rounded experience in the moral and spiritual, and providing education about the changing modes of communication.

Many programs at Mazenod that have held intrinsic value and are automatically placed on the calendar each year are Peer Support, Work Placement and Work Experience. This week the Year 10 students attended work experience. This is a time of transition for many Year 10 students. For most it is the realization that they will need to specialise in their studies to meet their vocational aspirations. Term 3 will be a time for Year 10 students to affirm the direction they will take for the next two years at the College.

The Year 11 Retreat took place this week. The voluntary retreat was run by the Oblate Youth Ministry Team and was a 3-day getaway from the stresses of school. At Pallotti College, students participated in games, shared food, activities and talks in a stress-free, open environment. There was an exploration of how the relationship with God can have a positive impact on life,  self-esteem and identity.  Thank you to Mr Cristiano Grosso and Mr John Tighe for the supervision of students and oversight of the program.

Term 2

Term 2 concludes today, and Semester 2 commenced last Tuesday. It has been a busy time for staff and students as COVID restrictions have lifted and the full calendar of events have occurred. Co-curricular activities are important for development and growth, especially during adolescence, and are associated with lower rates of anti-social and risky behaviour, lower rates of academic failure and lower dropout rates. Congratulations to all staff and students for participation in the broad range of co-curricular activities.

Shrek, The Musical

The Mazenod-Avila Annual Musical will be held this year from Wednesday July 13 to Saturday July 16 at The Besen Centre, 87-89 Station Street, Burwood. This year we are presenting Shrek, The Musical. I would like to encourage all members of the community to support this event, and sincerely hope that you are able to join us at any one of the performances.

Thank You

Thank you for everything you have done this Term to keep Mazenod open and safe, and to provide your son with opportunities to participate in camps and co-curricular activities they have missed over the past two years. I hope you have a well-deserved holiday break with your family and friends.

All the best,
