A Night to Shine

Optus Stadium again provided the perfect backdrop for A Night to Shine. This special event is the culmination of the Becoming Men Program where our Year 9 boys have the opportunity to share a special evening with a significant female in their lives and demonstrate their appreciation and respect for them.

Thank you to everyone involved for making this such a special evening! Photos will be distributed to the cohort soon.

Year 12 Aviation Excursion

Last Thursday, the Year 12 Aviation class travelled to Jandakot Airport to visit various flight schools. Students were treated to multiple take-offs and landings from various aircrafts until the weather turned sour in the afternoon. Most of the Year 12 Aviation students are aspiring to enter the Aviation industry to be a fixed wing or helicopter pilot, workshop engineer, or want to join the Defence Force, so this excursion was applicable to all.

The day started with a tour of the Royal Aero Club of WA (RACWA), the largest and oldest flight school at Jandakot. We toured the facilities and had a presentation explaining their integrated study and flying program to achieve a Diploma of Aviation in conjunction with a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL). It was nice to discover that the course qualifies for StudyAssist, just like a University degree, making it a very financially appealing option. The boys were given a fantastic opportunity to sit in the aircraft at RACWA and feel what it’s like to be on the flight deck at the controls.

The next stop was the Goldfields Air Services, a smaller flight school for those who prefer the flexibility of doing flight lessons on a more casual basis. Goldfields had some very nice modern aircrafts, and we loved getting up close and personal to their amazing Cirrus SR-22 and Diamond DA-42 aircraft; two of the most state-of-the-art piston engine planes available.

The next stop was to Swift Aircraft Services, a workshop hangar that performs most of the servicing and repairs to Jandakot’s aircrafts. This was particularly interesting for those interested in becoming a licensed aircraft technician. It was great to speak to the workshop mechanics about their job and to see all the inner workings of different aircraft types in real life. ...It is rumoured that Mr Chan purchased an aircraft engine at this point of the tour!

Our final visit was to Corsaire Aviation, a helicopter charter company and flight school. It was incredible walking around the facility, learning about the possibilities of becoming a licenced helicopter pilot. Talking to flight instructors, engineers in charge of maintaining the helicopters, sitting in the helicopters and having a front row seat to a landing made for an incredible experience and some serious consideration into starting a rotary wing career next year!

Overall, this was amazing excursion to experience the Aviation industry in real life, and was a consolidation for all of us as to why our Trinity Aviation program is so great and so translatable into a career path. I would personally urge anyone who is interested in studying Aviation at Trinity to do so, given the amazing experience we had discovering the industry further. Many thanks to Mr Chan for the excursion!

A Taste of Italy

To finish off the term, Ms Ierace’s Italian class had a cooking lesson in the pavilion on Wednesday. They learnt how to make pasta alla carbonara and pasta alla salsiccia (sausage) using fresh and simple ingredients.

A big part of learning a language is also learning about the culture, and food is a very important part of Italian culture! Italian cooking is about keeping things simple with minimal ingredients. All of the boys certainly enjoyed eating the pasta as much as the cooking lesson itself.

Prefect Perspectives

The final week of school was an eventful one, as Tuesday saw the combined Christian Service/NAIDOC week assembly. The number of students recognised for their contributions to the school and the community was truly impressive, with a special mention to Michael Lamborn, Myles Brown and Christian Marchesani for their monumental workload. In addition to this, a performance featuring Indigenous boys ranging from Years 7 to 12 was excellent, a highlight of the week that carried momentum into the rest of the week's NAIDOC activities.

This year's NAIDOC theme; 'Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!, was heeded by all involved in the staff vs students basketball and footy game, which was a highlight affair, as the TC staff demonstrated some unforeseen class to provide stiff competition for the boys.

The first of three sessions for the Year 12 cohort, led by Mr Shinkfield, or Joel as he now insists we call him, was a fantastic initiative, with its aim to provide us students with a necessary vision to make their mark post-Trinity.

The excitement of Thursday's fire drill was a climactic point of the week, albeit slightly mistimed so that no-one had to miss any tests, leaving many disappointed.

The Prefects would like to wish everyone in the TC community a relaxing holiday, and hope they can regroup for what will be undoubtedly be a bust Term 3!
