Prayer

This week, the Church has three significant celebrations.  Last Sunday was the Feast of the Holy Trinity, yesterday was the Feast of St Anthony, and tomorrow marks the Feast of Corpus Christi - the Body and Blood of Christ.

At our Assembly on Tuesday morning, Mr Di Sano's Year 9 Religious Education class presented the following regarding these celebrations.

The Feast of the Holy Trinity was officially recognised in 1334 as being the first Sunday after Pentecost.  The Sign of the Cross, another important ritual associated with the Trinity, has been used since the Fifth Century.  The words 'In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost' were added to glorify the divinity of God, three in one.

Similarly, the ancient prayer of praise, "Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit" also celebrates the Trinity.

St Anthony of Padua is the patron saint of lost items.  He is one of the most popular saints in the Church.  Yesterday marked his Feast Day.  His life is what every Christian's life is meant to be; courageous in the face of difficulties, forgiving in the fact of disappointment and loving in the company of the poor.

This Thursday marks the Feast of Corpus Christi.  This celebration recognises the Sacrament of Communion and the Last Supper.

Let us therefore bring our thoughts and prayers for the Feast of the Holy Trinity, the Feast of St Anthony and the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ together, and pray this prayer to the Trinity:

Glory Be to the Father

And to the Son

And to the Holy Spirit

As it was in the beginning

Is now and ever shall be

World without end

Amen

Building Update - End of Term 2 2022 - Your Building Fund in Action

Playground upgrade

We are pleased to advise the community that the playground upgrade of the basketball court has been completed and it looks great. We have included new gardens and landscape areas as well as new steps and stairs which lead from the court to the lunch areas for students in Years 10-12.

Learning Hub – A Senior Learning Centre

The new Learning Hub is making great progress and although there have been major challenges with the weather, the program is progressing well.

Below are some interesting photos showing the significant progress now as the basement areas are nearing completion and the next stages are developing. It is expected that this project will be completed by early November and certainly ready for the start of the 2023 school year.

Following a range of consultation and discussion, it has been decided that the Learning Hub will be used as a Senior Learning Centre primarily for Year 11 and 12 classes with potentially some Year 10 classes as well.

This is a very exciting project and will certainly benefit our senior boys.

Year 12 Social Afternoon at Oxford Falls with Brigidine College Year 12

Last Friday afternoon our Year 12 students took the opportunity to host their Brigidine College counterparts at our Oxford Falls Treacy Centre. The social evening led by student leaders Ronan Crispe, Will Ramsbottom and Andrew McKinnon consisted of social sports games including soccer, touch football, basketball and table tennis before a light supper and social activities. Thank you to Ms Janes, Mr Codsi, Ms Fryar, Mr Couani and Brigidine Principal Ms Redmond and Deputy Mr Loughland for supporting this event.

Winter Appeal

Thank you to all those families who have contributed to our Winter Appeal. We are still looking for non-perishable food items, including canned vegetables, rice and pasta, as well as blankets, pyjamas and any men’s clothing in good condition. The appeal concludes tomorrow (Thursday) with our Year 9s continuing their Edmund Rice Society efforts, busy packing the donations in the foyer!

Bishop Peter Ingham Awarded AM

It was very pleasing to hear that an Old Boy, Emeritus Bishop Peter Ingham, was awarded an AM for Significant Service to the Catholic Church in Australia in this week's Queen's Birthday Awards Honours List.  Bishop Ingham said Mass for the College at the Opening Mass this year, in celebration of our 85th Anniversary.
