Saint Francis Xavier - Principal's Report
Term 2 - Week 8
Dear Parents and Friends of St Francis Xavier,
Despite this ongoing wave of sickness rolling through our classrooms throughout the term, we have managed to celebrate another fabulous term of learning at St Francis Xavier Primary School.
It has been extremely busy to say the least, including;
- A group of Grade 4 students received the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time.
- The Prep/2 visited Frankston Arts Centre to watch 'Guess How Much I Love You?'
- The Mayor of Frankston, Cr Nathan Conroy and the State Member of Parliament, Paul Edbrooke both visited the Grade 5/6 students.
- Grade 3 and 5 students participated in NAPLAN testing, which was conducted online for the first time at S.F.X.
- The senior students led the school in an ANZAC Day service.
- We celebrated National Reconciliation Week, where students participated in activities in their classrooms and the Fire Carrier team led a service with each classroom.
- Grade 4-6 students particed in District Cross Country, a Lightning Premiership against local schools (Soccer and Netball) and also District Field Athletics.
- Our wonderful parents ran a successful Mother's Day stall.
- On the school closure day in May, Miss Erin organised an outstanding day of Professional Learning for the staff in the area of Mathematics.
- The 'Courage to Care' team visited the school to work with the Grade 5/6 students and discuss the dangers of prejudice, racism and discrimination.
Now we look forward to Term 3!
Extra Physical Education Classes in Terms 3 + 4
We have decided to run an extra Physical Education class for all year levels starting from the beginning of Term 3. After a few years with so many children stuck at home, combined with the fact that many local sport clubs were unable to operate during that period, we have noticed that a lot of our students are becoming unusually fatigued during games and that many of their fundamental skills such as throwing, kicking and catching have declined. Miss Emma will now take each class for a P.E lesson every Wednesday AND Thursday. The students all have a wonderful time in their sport lessons and I know they will all benefit from the extra time each week.
S.F.X Circus Spectacular
One of the things that we are especially looking forward to in Term Three is welcoming the team from 'The Circus Crew' back to St Francis Xavier.
The Circus Crew is such an outstanding company. They work with all students in the areas of juggling, floor displays, balance routines, and so much more. On top of the sheer joy of joining in, participation boosts confidence and concentration levels, builds invaluable teamwork skills, improves co-ordination and uncovers hidden talents.
Students will participate in weekly lessons every Friday throughout Term 3.
There will then be a whole school concert on the evening of Thursday 15th September at George Jenkins Theatre (Monash University - Frankston). Ticketing information will provided early next term. We expect that all students will attend and participate in this amazing performance.
School Reports
Semester One reports will be sent home with all students tomorrow. Please take the time to read through them with your child. They will provide an insight to your child's learning achievements over throughout the first half of 2022.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Just a friendly reminder that if you have not already booked a parent-teacher interview or need to alter your booking, you have until 8:00pm on Monday to do so. Interviews will be held on Tuesday 21st June starting at 1:30 pm. If you have any issues or these times are not suitable, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
School finishes at 1:00pm on Tuesday. Please pick your child up from the Green Gates at any time between 1:00pm - 1:15pm. Students do not need to bring lunch with them on this day.
School Closure Days - Term 3
There will be two school closure days in Term 3.
- Monday 11th July (1st Day of Term 3)
- Friday 16th September (Last Day of Term 3)
Please mark these in your calendars.
The first day of Term 3 for students at S.F.X is Tuesday 12th July.
As this is our last newsletter for the term I would like to thank the amazing staff for their continuous support and dedication.
Lastly, you will all be aware that one of our past students, Zoe Brookes, sadly passed away recently.
Zoe's family would like to remind all our S.F.X families that you are all welcome to join them in celebrating the life of Zoe this Saturday 18th June. Her funeral will be held at 11:00am at St Francis Xavier Church in Frankston. Her burial will be at Bunurong Memorial Park at 12:30pm, followed by refreshments at Frankston Football Club at 3:00pm.
Our entire community continues to mourn her loss, however we will always cherish the wonderful memories we have of Zoe and the joy that she brought to our wonderful school each and every day.
