Year 10

Persistence through the Arts

This semester, Year 10 Media Photography students were finally able to shoot on location! Excursions to Geelong Botanical Gardens, Balyang Sanctuary and Geelong Waterfont were well attended resulting in successful photoshoots. Students worked with both digital and 35mm film SLR cameras to produce their images.

Back in the classroom they also experienced digital and analogue post-production techniques. The greater challenge was taking still photos on light sensitive film, then developing their own film to produce negatives and selected frames from their contact sheets. Students persisted with the challenges of manual camera settings, then persisted in the darkroom to enlarge a series of black and white shots from their own negatives, all while recording the process in their folios; resulting in a range of dynamic imagery.

Animation

This semester, Animation for Year 10 ran for the very first time. The students in this class were able to use their Chromebook and the animation software Krita to learn the process of creating 2D animations. The Year 10 Animation class learned very quickly that animation is a time intensive process and requires a lot of hard work.

They were able to persevere and learn about walk cycles, lip-syncing, action and the principles of animation. In the end the Year 10s were able to work independently on their own projects, spending the entire term creating an animation of their choosing.

Here is a small sample of their work this semester. Just follow thisLINKand enjoy!

Year 12 Camp

The best part of camp was just interacting with teachers and other students that we don't usually talk to and learning more about them. As we are in year 12 we only interact with a certain amount of teachers but camp gave us the opportunity to interact and learn more about teachers that teach the Vcal system or classes we do not attend. Laughs were shared and positive vibes were spread which made camp very enjoyable. - DJ

Engaging in group activities and competing with our peers was the best part of year 12 camp for me. Year 12 Camp brought everyone's competitive side out and made it way more enjoyable as everyone was participating in small groups to get first place. It kept everyone active and engaged and was a positive vibe throughout the whole camp. Everyone got along and shared conversations. - Dish

The best thing that happened to me during the camp is not the activities. They're fun and I learnt a lot of new exciting things, especially during the Deakin tour. But that's not what makes the camp memorable. For me, it's the memories that I made with my friends and the new friends that I made during the camp. - Zainab

I had fun at our year 12 camp. On the first day, I boarded the train to the southern cross station and then walked a long way to our hotel to put our luggage there. My roommates were Zainab, Isha, Emmy and Alexis. We then went to a science g and then after that, we did a scavenger hunt. I also visited the night market at the Victorian market. It was very crowded but the food was worth the wait! Then it was bedtime. Before we fell asleep we watched a scary movie on Netflix. - Tabasom

VCAL

This week the VCAL students presented their end of semester enterprise project reviews.  The students were able to reflect on the successes and challenges of their business ventures in the first semester.  It was great to see the growth in employability skills and the excellent work that has occurred. The presentations ranged from sustainable wood products, crafts and the operation of School Yard Beans.
