From the Principal's desk

June 2022

Dear Community Members,

It is hard to believe that we are at the midpoint of the school year as we look forward to the end of term holidays on Friday. The year has certainly been busy and the work of our entire college community to navigate the ongoing complexities associated with living in ‘COVID Normal’ world. Our school community continues to work through these complexities with great positivity and understanding however it should also be noted that the desire to retain rigor and to high expectations has not wavered. These are behaviours we should be proud of, as this attention to detail can be difficult when we are faced with so much challenge.

GROWTH - Goldsworthy Building project

We have talked about it and talked about it and finally it started. On Tuesday the PLAN building group arrived on-site to set up their work space and begin their work on the rebuilding project that will transform our Goldsworthy Campus over the next 18 months. This is such a huge moment in time for our school as the facilities of our senior campus will finally reflect the quality of learning opportunities available at our school and symbolically reflect the importance with which education should be looked upon across our community. We look forward with great anticipation to the stages ahead!

COLLABORATION - Extended School Day

The Extended School Day program for Term 2 wrapped up last Thursday. Three days a week for 8 of the 10 weeks each term students from all campuses have access to the wide variety of programs that make up this very unique and amazing school based program. The quality of the instructors and support staff who bring this program to life with Amanda, Jessie and Simone really are just brilliant. It cannot be understated just how important it is for our students to have access to and participate in high quality co-curricular programs. Keep an eye out for the booking forms for next term as the sessions are sure to fill fast!

GROWTH - Inaugural Student Wellbeing Camp

Over the holidays members of our amazing college wide Student Wellbeing team will host a camp for a group of our students at our Staughton Vale school camp site. This is a wonderful initiative which will be used to develop relationships with students across our college, further develop bonds across our campuses and support our students to focus on themselves and the further realisation of their own personal development goals.

The team has a really exciting program planned and we are so confident that this experience will add so niely to what is already a comprehensive set of learning opportunities for our students.

KINDNESS - Congratulations Kaye

This week we farewell a long serving member of our college cleaning team. Kaye Snowball, who is our Goldsworthy Campus head cleaner, will finish up officially on July 8, as she retires to spend more time with her family and on herself. The absolute importance of having a team of cleaning staff who are invested and take pride in their work cannot be underestimated and Kaye has led her team's work with such distinction and dedication over such a long period of time. Kaye is a most respected member of the NBC team and we thank you Kaye and wish you well.

Short Black Opera

Last month, 12 of our students gave up their curriculum day to complete their 5-day intensive workshop with Short Black Opera for kids. In only 12 hours these students learnt 9 songs in 4 different languages and performed in front of family, friends, and important guests.  From this group, five students were then invited to join the Dhungala Choir and performed at the Geelong Cats home game during the Dreamtime round.

SEED Video

We are proud to launch our latest video showcasing our college programs. This video captures our SEED program and its students. We think it came up really well. This will be loaded to our college website https://www.nbc.vic.edu.au/

On behalf of the entire NBC staff team we wish all families a safe and relaxing holiday break.
