Principals Report

Every day matters

It is hard to believe that term 2 is already over. It has been a busy one!

I am so proud of our students and their achievements this semester.

This term break is a good time for students to reflect.

Our motto is everyday matters, this means that not only is it important that students attend every day and learn to their best potential, it also means that the matters of every day are vitally important.

Our students, every day, show us that they value the time they have at Homestead. It is however, becoming more clear that there is a misunderstanding or a disconnect between perception and the reality of it really takes to succeed in a senior college.

I found this image through an education publication recently and I wanted to share this with all. It is a very clear visual on this topic. The road to success includes detours, it includes road bumps or set backs, it includes road blocks and requires resilience to get through to the end.

The good news is that students and families do not need to feel that they need to tackle these challenges alone.

Adolescents will make decisions during this time that as adults we know are not always the best ones. This includes decisions around attendance, effort, attitude.

We will not give up on our students and staff at Homestead are aware of these challenges, in particular the challenge that the next two terms will will be for our Year 12 students as they navigate this road towards the final exams in November.

Please ensure that you communicate and work with our team to ensure we get every student through to the end.

I hope that the exam period this semester has been a good one for all of our students. If it hasn't, this is ok. These experiences are all formative, they give us information on what is required to do better. I hope that all students reflect on their performance and set goals to do even better in term 3 and beyond.

Staffing

As this term ends, we say goodbye to Ingrid Gorlick who will be making her way back to New Zealand. I wish to thank Ingrid for her contribution to setting up our college Food Technology program from the ground up and for always having the best interest of the students at heart.

Nayla Gredelj also leaves us after a short time at Homestead supporting students in the classroom. All the best
