HOLIDAY READING

I always find time to read but during the holidays we get the chance to relax and enjoy some reading just for the sheer enjoyment of reading. Here are a few new books we have at Rowville Primary School that you might enjoy.

The Wonders of Never Giving Up by Maddy Mara

I really enjoyed this book with its inspiring message to never give up.

My grandmother's favourite word was ‘grit’ and this book written in rhyme looks at various people who have found some true grit and determination and succeeded in their chosen field.

Success isn’t easy, and though it sounds cheesy

Clear paths to great heights are quite rare.

Just flip through this book – go ahead, take a look!

Even champions started somewhere.

Monty’s Island: Scary Mary and the Stripe Spell by Emily Rodda

This is book 1 in a new series written by award winning author

Emily Rodda for junior students. Monty never knows what is going to happen on his island. “On a tiny island far away, in a sea that ripples with magic.”  Scary Mary and her pirate crew have landed and Monty and his friends need to think of some good ideas to save their home.

We Won An Island by Charlotte Lo

The blurb for this novel says “There is no way I am moving to an island" said Margot. I folded my arms. "We’ll see about that….” And so starts a fantastic adventure filled with goats, secrets, bat poo, a big storm, family and laughter.

Eyes That Speak to the Stars by Joanna Ho

This wonderful picture book gives us an insight into cultural diversity, relationships and respect, gaining strength, acceptance and power from within yourself. We might look different but we can come to understand that our eyes “rise to the skies and speak to the stars, shine like sunlit rays and glimpse trails of light from those who came before.” Highly recommended.

We also have the ebook companion to this story Eyes That Kiss in the Corners (a book that has been on the New York Best Sellers lists). You can download it from Oliver V5 via Compass -- School Favourites.

  Monkey’s Tail by Alex Rance

Richmond Football Club’s ex-player Alex Rance has become a children’s book author. He has written Tiger’s Roar, Taming a Tiger and Rabbit’s Hop and his latest book Monkey’s Tail is inspirational. The story is about how he got through a season-ending injury. He says that it’s also about “family, self-belief, sharing worries, staying positive and caring for others.”
