Message from Principal Sarah

From Sarah Nightingale, Principal

Thank You to the School Community

As we near the end of Term 2, I cannot express how grateful I am to all the staff, students and families at North Melbourne Primary School. Once again, we have had many challenges thrown at as over the term, however together we have shown great flexibility and resilience. We have ensured the learning and wellbeing of our students, staff and families have remained at the forefront at all times.

So once again, I thank our whole school community for your understanding and support throughout the term.

School Documentation

We are happy to announce, following the completion of our School Review in Term 1, the Key Directions for NMPS have now been finalised and are documented in our 2022 – 2025 School Strategic Plan (SSP). The SSP outlines the school’s goals, targets and Key Improvement Strategies for the next four years. Our SSP can be found on our website along with our 2022 Annual Improvement Plan (AIP).

Also published on our website is our 2021 Annual Report. On Thursday 16th June, we held our Annual Report meeting with the School Community to present the data from this report. If you were unable to attend and would like to read the full report, please head over to the NMPS website.

Student Reports

This term teachers have been assessing student learning achievement and writing student reports, celebrating student learning growth throughout Semester One. Student reports will be shared with parents via Compass on Friday 24th June. We encourage parents to read and reflect upon your child/ren’s report/s and celebrate their successes.

Term 3 Professional Practice Day

For Semester 2, 2022, the Department of Education and Training has provided schools with the option to hold each teacher’s allocated professional practice day on the same day for all staff. This is to enable the most effective and efficient use of this day.

As a result, we have scheduled our professional practice day for Monday 29th August. Students will therefore not be required to attend school on this day.

Biz-E-Kidz will provide a service for students if required. Bookings will open via Smartcentral next term.

CCTV at our school

Given the number of incidents we have had over the last 6 months outside of school hours, North Melbourne Primary School has decided to use a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system at our school.

Our school has an obligation to ensure the school environment is safe and secure, and fulfil our duty of care to students, staff and visitors. The CCTV system will assist our school to fulfil these obligations and to prevent and manage other inappropriate behaviour on school grounds. CCTV will also provide enhanced capability to protect our school’s assets against vandalism and theft.

We will follow Department of Education and Training policy requirements for the design, installation, management and use of the CCTV systems. This policy is available at: CCTV in Schools – Installation and Management.

We will also place a CCTV Privacy Notice on our school website with more information about our school’s use of CCTV before it is rolled out in Term 3.

If you have any questions or concerns at this stage, please contact the school via email: north.melbourne.ps@education.vic.gov.au

Staffing Update

This term we say goodbye to Emma Lawrence as she begins her maternity leave during the holidays. We wish Emma and her partner all the best as they embark on this new chapter together.

We welcome Fiona Livingstone to NMPS. Fiona will replace Emma as Prep C’s teacher for the remainder of the school year. Please feel free to say ‘hello’ to Fiona if you see her around the school next term.

Holiday Building and Ground Works

There will be a number of different contractors working on both the buildings and school grounds over the holidays. These works will see repairs and improvements to NMPS.

Happy and Safe Holidays

There will be a whole school assembly on Friday at 2:15pm to celebrate the end of term 2. Students will be dismissed from assembly at 2:30pm.

I wish everyone a safe, relaxing and enjoyable break and look forward to welcoming all students back to school on Tuesday 12th July.

Estuary Yoga Partnership

Estuary Yoga has partnered with North Melbourne Primary School. 100% of funds raised from their Yoga in Community sessions will be donated to NMPS to grow our yoga facilitates and programs for students and staff. We thank Estuary Yoga for considering NMPS and look forward to working with them. Information on how to book a session is included in the community section of this newsletter.
