Staff shortages update

A huge thank you to the NMPS community for your support through our recent staff shortages. Although not completely over, we believe we are through the worst of it. Families are now able to resume their permanent bookings, make casual and new bookings. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Preps Joining ‘Big Biz-E-Kidz’

Last week the prep Biz-E-Kidz successfully transitioned to join our main program, ‘Big Biz-E-Kidz’ at our main building. This gives Preps loads more options for play and socialisation, which they are definitely ready for. We already have seen lots of older children welcoming Preps in and helping them learn how to do important things like make paper aeroplanes (thanks Jenson!) and join games of soccer (thanks to Harry P and Felix M!). A big thank you to Alice and Kristen for sharing your spaces with the Preps. And exciting news - we will continue to occupy the library after school and operate a ‘Seniors Club’ for Year 3-6 with homework, complex board games, special drawing equipment and - the best bit - a whole library full of books to read!

Hello New Educators and Farewell to Lloyd and Olivia

This year we have welcomed on board quite a few new Educators to our Biz-E-Kidz team. They have backgrounds in nursing, art, youth work, teaching, and hospitality. This week we welcomed Sophie, Aleks and Eve, and earlier this year, Elena, Georgie, Anja, Gabby, Holly T, Izzy, Demie and Emma! Sadly we have also said goodbye to Olivia and Lloyd, who has been with us for a long time - Lloyd even attended Biz-E-Kidz as a child!

Problem-solving to balance safety and healthy risk-taking play

On our no-school-for-students day, we invented a new piece of play equipment. Prompted by a child using a skipping rope to swing in a tree, which risked breaking the skipping rope, Jess and Libby problem-solved with the kids to facilitate a tree-swing game that’s a bit safer - for the tree, the rope, and the swinging child. We identified a good sturdy branch for swinging and used our really thick long rope which we use to play ‘helicopter’ and group skipping games. Jess tested it herself - see photos! Libby credits Angus Gorrie for the inspiration to not shy away from risk-taking play such as this. Angus Gorrie is a play specialist and coordinator of his own OSHC service, who made an inspiring presentation at Community ChildCare’s annual National OSHC Conference which we attended virtually last month.
