NAPLAN

NAPLAN results were recently released with all students undertaking this year’s assessments receiving an individual report on their achievement. This year the measures of achievement are different to previous years with the implementation of proficiencies. There are 4 proficiency levels:

  • Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing
  • Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing
  • Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing
  • Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

Due to the change in measures, there is no comparative data to previous years, however we are able to compare the school’s achievement levels compared to schools within the Darebin/Yarra network as well as schools with similar socio/economic demographics. State and National data is not yet available.

The school results for Reading were particularly pleasing. In both Year 3 and Year 5 Reading results, we achieved higher than network and similar school's average.

The school results for Writing in both Year 3 and Year 5 shows achievement to be lower than network and similar school average results.

The school results for Numeracy in both Year 3 and Year 5 shows achievement to be lower than network and similar school average results.

Improving outcomes in numeracy is a priority in our School Strategic Plan.  This year and over the next few years we will focus on building and strengthening teacher capacity in providing differentiated maths learning programs that target individual learning needs. Developing relevant, rich and engaging learning experiences will improve attitudes to maths learning, reduce maths anxiety and improve learning outcomes.

Parent/ carer Opinion Survey

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023.  Individual Parent Log In details and information will be sent to families on Monday 7th of August.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

The survey results enable us to evaluate the school’s progress in relation to goals and targets in our School Strategic Plan and inform decisions about our Annual Implementation Plan. Once results are available they will be communicated along with student and staff opinion survey results through the Dhumbadjirri and community forums. Results are also available through the Annual Report which will be available on our website.
