Netball

Term 3 has been action packed with tournaments keeping the player athletes and coaches busy! On Tuesday 25th July we took an Intermediate and a Senior Netball team to the SSV Western Metropolitan Sports Region Netball Tournament at Altona Sports Centre.

The Senior team defeated Hoppers Crossing Secondary College 18 to 15 in game 1. In game 2 we were defeated by Point Cook Senior College 11 to 16 and in game 3 we were defeated by Gisborne Secondary College 8 to 14. The player athletes worked well together as a team but as the day progressed, they came up against some strong opposition.

The Intermediate team defeated The Grange P-12 College 31 to 13 in game 1. Up next, we played Williamstown High School, winning 23 to 10. In game 3 we versed Gisborne Secondary College and defeated them 22 to 18. We finished top of the pool and progressed to the final against Maribyrnong College who ended up as premieres. It was a competitive game, but Maribyrnong challenged us with their accuracy and pressure.

Back in the classroom, we have been focussing on the current Netball World Cup being held in Capetown South Africa where the Australian Diamonds are progressing well through the preliminary group rounds towards Quarter Finals. Our General Assessment Task has been working on completing a World Cup Profile for a Country/Team and Individual in a slide show format and presentation to the class. Junior Student work in groups, our Intermediate and Senior groups are working individually and looking at some more advanced concepts. The student athlete’s enthusiasm and engagement has been fantastic. It has been really interesting investigating different countries styles.

A big warm welcome to Charli Nicol to our Netball Staff as an assistant coach. Charli is currently an elite player tracking on both the Netball Victoria and Netball Australia Pathway as a current Australian 19&U Squad Member, Vixens Academy Member, Victorian Institute of Sport Categorised Athlete and Victoria Fury Team emergency. We look forward to her work with the group in both a coaching and mentoring capacity with our student athletes.
