Literacy

This week we started our text based unit on ‘Possum Magic’ to build up our knowledge about the elements in the text we started learning about proper nouns as well as the states and capital cities in Australia. As a class we shared about different places we have been or heard of. Our favourite challenge was trying to redraw the map of Australia. Below are some places we have been in Australia and why we like them or places we would like to visit:

Daphne

I want to go to Darwin and visit my uncle.

Ryder

My favourite place is a toss up between Sydney and Darwin.

Addison

I have been to a place that she had seen on the TV.

Hudson

I went on a holiday to Perth.

George

I have been to New South Wales to see my cousins.

I have been on a plane to Tasmania.

Art

Last week the Grade 1/2’s were lucky enough to have an extra Art lesson. In this lesson they explored different types of lines through drawing a street full of buildings. We hope you enjoy the final product!

 Grade 1-2 Miss Hart

What a fun start to Term 3! The grade 1/2s have thoroughly enjoyed all the exciting opportunities and learning activities we have taken part in over the last few weeks.

On Friday, students participated in an RACV Road Safety workshop with Sandra. Students learnt all things road, pedestrian and bike safety. They especially enjoyed some of the jingles/catch phrases they learnt with actions to remember the important rules of road safety.

Road Safety: ‘Stop, Look, Listen and Think’

Seat Belts: ‘Clickity Clack in the front and the back.’

In Religion, we read and discussed a piece of scripture from the Book of John. “But I am giving you a new command. You must love each other, just as I have loved you. If you love each other, everyone will know that you are my disciples.” As a class we made a Good News wall with newspaper clippings or personal news which showed people loving one another or following the ways of Jesus. Check out the Good News we found!!

In Maths, we are learning about the topic of Multiplication. Students have been exploring many strategies to solve multiplication problems. We have been exploring arrays, groups of and repeated addition. Have a look at some of our ‘dot painting’ arrays to solve multiplication problems.

Grade 3-4 Mrs Stock

Last week all the students were lucky to go on an excursion to St. Augustines for a Magician show. The students had to write a recount about their experience of the day. Here are just a few to share.

Magician

We went to St Augustine’s to watch a magician. We hopped on the bus then we took off. We got there at about 9 o’clock. We hopped off the bus then we then we went to the Brigidine Centre, and we sat down and watched her do cool magic tricks, then a couple hours later we went off to eat our lunch. My friend and I played footy and we won. A few minutes later we were colouring in a page of colouring, then after that, we did a workshop where we learnt some magic tricks. They were so cool!I love the rubber band tricks, then a couple hours later that was the end of the magic show. Then we hopped on the bus and rode back to school and we got there at 1:20. Two hours later I rode home on my bike and the day was over.

The Magic Show

On Thursday our school went to St Augustine's. When we gotthere we sat down in the sports room. Tam showed us randommagic for 2 hours and we got shown juggling and we went todifferent stations to learn magic. We then had fruit and did acolouring of tessellation. We went back on the bus and hadsnack and played and then we went back to class and playedwith our juggling balls in Mrs Crosbie's class.

Random Acts of Magic.

First, we jumped on the bus to St Augustine’s at 8:40 in the morning. It took about 15 minutes.

When we arrived, we met Tam the magician who showed us magic like making ten balls out of one ball and juggling. I could not see or hear Tam so well. She had a dog named Candy and a rabbit but we do not know the rabbits name.

We had an hour break and we did some coloring and talked, and we had fruit.

Then it was time for a snack. I had some cookies and then I went and played with my friend, James who used to go to St Augustines.

After that we did some magic with Tam. I did rubber band magic sponge magic and washer magic tricks. I could only do one of the tricks. They were very hard Tam!!!

Then we jumped on the bus home and got back to school at 1:20pm.

In conclusion, I rate it 2 stars because I could not see or hear Tam very well and some of the magic was very obvious.

Magician performance

On the 27th of July St Patrick’s Tongala traveled on a bus to St Augustine Kyabram. We watched a magician (Tam) perform.

As soon as we arrived we had a seat in the assembly area.To start with Tam threw an imaginary ball to other students. Next we watched Tam juggle. She was awesome. She started straight up with three juggling balls. Later she invited people from the audience and she asked to hold a magic rope. It snapped into a large rope, a medium sized rope and a small rope.

After she shared her tricks we learned our own tricks. I learnt to transfer a rubber band on your pointer finger middle finger to your ring finger and pinky finger. I also learned how to juggle with two balls

I thought the magician's performance was outstanding in a magical way!

Magician performance

On 27 of July St. Patrick’s School went to St. Augustine’s Kyabram for the random acts of magic performance.

Tam picked volunteers to come and help her do some tricks. First, she threw an imaginary ball around the room. Then she got a volunteer to come up and she put a sponge and their hand. Then she clicked and the sponge vanished. Tam got a rubber band and a washer and put the washer on the rubber band and then it rose to the middle.

Then she taught us how to juggle and tricks she did. The juggling with 2 was easy, but with 3 it was so difficult and the tricks were so hard to learn. I kept trying to learn the tricks but I couldn’t do it.

I thought it was pretty cool and fun, I loved watching the show.

Magic trick

On Thursday St Patrick’s school went to St Augustine’s school

for a magic concert. At the magic concert Tam was grabbing the balls and they were multiplying balls. Blake was surprised that the balls were multiplying.

At the magic workshop we got to do a magic trick. I learned the rubber band trick.

The magic show was mind blowing!

The Magic show

Yesterday me and my whole school went to St Augustine’s  for a magic show.

The magician did tricks, and she also did magic tricks.  The dog's name was Candy and he walked over people's backs and the rabbit popped out from a hat.  We got to pat the dog and the rabbit. The magician, Tam, did a rubber band trick. She put a band around her fingers, and then she flicked and they moved from one finger to another.

I got to go up on stage. I learnt how to juggle, then we had a try of juggling the balls ourselves, and I could only juggle one ball. She taught me how to do a sponge trick. It was pretty hard. You had to hold one sponge very tight and then the other person had to snap their fingers and then open up your hand and then you see two sponges.

I was happy because her jokes were very very funny.

It was very fun and the magician is too, and she even made us all laugh.

Grade 5-6 Miss Rasmussen

The Grade 5/6 class have been super excited to audition for their roles in the school production ‘Story Time Showdown’. Miss Ras and Mrs Stockdale were so impressed by the high standard of auditions and found it very difficult to allocate roles, but it has made us so excited to see the final product at the end of the term. Students have begun rehearsing their lines and getting into character.

As part of our daily English work, students participate in spelling lessons. During these lessons they learn about morphographs (the smallest unit of meaning in the English language). They also learn spelling rules to help them understand what changes need to happen when we add morphographs to words. Check out the concentration on the class during a recent lesson!

Congratulations to Zac, Georgia and Shila who have been continually extending themselves in maths. They competed in the ACARA Australian Maths Competition for Upper Primary students. They loved the challenge!
