Aboriginal Culture Incursion and Events

If you thought you heard the sound of a didgeridoo at Mackellar this week, you weren't mistaken! On Wednesday or Thursday, each grade participated in a whole school incursion 'Aboriginal Culture'.
The focus was around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures. Students had the opportunity to develop an understanding of the rich and ancient traditions of Australia’s first inhabitants. The experience enabled them to explore different cultural aspects such as Aboriginal artefacts, dance, art and storytelling. Students and teachers engaged in relaxation and breathing exercises as the facilitator played the didgeridoo. Here are some memories and meaningful learning experiences captured on the day.
Although we were rained out last Thursday, the weather brightened up for us the very next day to host our Colour Explosion event, and what a huge success! The atmosphere was spectacular, with over 300 excited children laughing and yelling for fun. Thank you for your support through either fundraising and/or providing your child with a white t-shirt to experience the 'crazy' fun-filled afternoon. The money raised will assist our school production.
It was fantastic to have so many families at the event. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our parents, carers and grandparents for volunteering their time and support. We cannot express just how much difference it makes to have our families involved. Thank you also to the grade 6 student leadership team for their organisation of the event and the individual rotational activities.
Here are some photographs of our students having an amazing, fun-filled afternoon. You might even see some parents, carers, grandparents and teachers having a crazy time with colour also!
