What's Happening in our Classroom
The Year 3s have had a great start to the term. During literacy students have been focusing on explanations by looking at the structure and features of this type of text.
During numeracy students have been consolidating their knowledge of addition and subtraction. They are also learning about location through looking at maps and using a range of language associated with direction and location.
Students are very excited to be discovering about Earth and space through our inquiry unit. Students have learnt about the rotation of the Earth and how this impacts the world around us. They are discovering the impact they can have on our environment and what changes humans and natural processes have on the Earth's surface. Students can’t wait for all of the exciting things we have coming up this term.
Science Discovery Dome incursion
What a fantastic way to start term 3 with a Science Discovery Dome incursion. The students entered the portable planetarium and were able to view the night sky and see stars, planets and major constellations on the ceiling of the dome. The effects of the Earth's rotation was explained by the presenter and the students were captivated listening to all the information.
Colour Fun Run
On Friday the 21st July students participated in the annual whole school Colour Fun Run. The weather was beautiful and lots of fun was had by all. Students participated in a round robin of various activities including hoops, throw and catch nets, hurdles, sack race, egg and spoon race and steal the bean bag game. The students (and Mrs. Elliott!) loved being covered in colour. Thank you to all the parents that came to help, we couldn’t have done it without you! Check out our colourful photos below!
Classroom systems
Students have been working in groups to develop a classroom systems matrix for the Grade 3 area. By using the school values of Respect, Resilience, Teamwork and Learning students are developing a positive behaviour matrix to follow in their classrooms. They are looking forward to receiving Buzz Awards in their class, as well as outside.
Our students are off to a great start and we can't wait to see how their learning will evolve over the term.
Warmest Regards,
The Year 3 Team
