Principal's Report

A very warm welcome back to everyone and an additional welcome to our new families who have joined us short term and long term. We have several families who are either returning to Australia or staying for a short-term visit from China. Ni Hao.  Thank you for adding your vibrance and energy to our community and we hope we give you wonderful Windsor memories.

Next week our Year 3 and Year 5 families will receive feedback on how our students went with this year’s Naplan testing. This year the assessment gradings have completely changed and it will be a learning journey for us all in how results are interpreted and used.  The old system placed students in scaled numeric bands (Band 1, Band 2, etc.), while the new system uses the descriptors ‘Needs Additional Support’, ‘Developing’, ‘Strong’ and ‘Exceeding’.  It is unknown how the two assessment systems correlate so it will be hard for parents/carers of Year 5 students to make comparisons to the 2021 Year 3 results. For any issues or questions parents/carers may have regarding the changes to the Naplan structure, do not hesitate to contact the school.

The issue of some schools now needing to pay payroll tax is topical since the latest State budget came out.  Many independent schools who were exempt from this tax are complaining.  Government schools have always had to pay this tax.  I have so many ideas of how we would spend the $83,000 dollars we lose from our funding to pay this tax.  There is still a huge inequity in the amount of funding government schools receive compared to independent schools, and the payroll tax situation adds to this.
