Luna Community Report

Term 3, 2023

Dear Families,

We are nearly at the end of Term 3! This term has flown by fast and we have enjoyed seeing your child engagement and excitement towards what we have been learning. Here is a short recap of what we have been learning about in Luna:

Reading

In Reading we have been exploring texts which shows us different poetry styles such as rhyming, alliteration and similes in song lyrics. We enjoyed engaging with books such as Pig the Pug, Thelma the Unicorn, Animalia and the chorus from a song called 'Smile'.  We are now diving into persuasive texts! Persuasive texts are all about the main character trying to convince someone to do something, make someone believe in something or change someone's mind.

Writing

Our young writers have been busy exploring various forms of poetry! They've delved into acrostic poems, where each letter of a word creates a line describing the topic. They've also explore haikus. A haiku is a special kind of poem with three lines. The first line has five sounds, the second line has seven, and the third line has five again. Each sound is like a beat when you say the words out loud. The students have been creative and enthusiastic in experimenting with different styles of writing.

Maths

In Maths our students have journeyed into the world of directions and maps. They've used an array of directional language, discovering how to navigate through both real and imaginary landscapes. They have discovered and brainstormed many words such as Forward, backward, left, right, up, down, turn, underneath, next to, between, across, through, around, above and below.

Inquiry

As budding scientists, our students have taken on the role of keen observers during their grass head experiment. They've been making careful observations, taking measurements, and recording their findings. This inquiry-based approach has not only fostered their scientific thinking but also taught them the importance of caring for their environment.

They've been investigating recycling and what that means for our planet.

Book Week

We loved seeing all of the creative costumes at Book Week. Luna has worked super hard to creative two book week windows to demonstrate the theme of "Read, Grow, Inspire", using the Dr Seuss book 'The Lorax'. Please come by during drop off or pick up to see our windows!

NOTES:

Homework:

Homework has the option to return completed homework either on a weekly basis or at the end of the term. We understand that each family's schedule is unique, so please choose the option that best suits your child and your family's preferences. Regardless of the return schedule, we encourage you to review your child's homework with them and support their learning journey.

Reading Diaries

Just a friendly reminder that reading diaries are due every Friday. These diaries are essential for tracking your child's reading progress and providing valuable insights into their literary adventures. Kindly ensure that the reading diaries are signed and returned to school promptly so that we can celebrate your child's reading achievements together.

Nightly Readers

To foster a love for reading and continuous improvement in literacy skills, we have designated three days for readers to be changed – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It is crucial that your child brings their reader bags to school each day to facilitate the book exchange process. The more they read, the more they expand their knowledge and imagination!

If you ever have any questions or concerns about homework, reading diaries, or anything else related to your child's education, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to assist and ensure that your child has a fulfilling and enriching learning experience.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.

From,

The Luna Team - Natalia, Belinda, Emily and Alex.
