Foundation at CEPS

in 2022

In 2022 our Foundation classes have had a wonderful start to the year, they focused heavily on building their understanding of school routines and learning what is expected of them during class time.

CURRICULUM:

In their teaching and learning they have focused heavily on establishing the following skills:

  • Literacy - Phonological Awareness -> Identifying syllables, rhyming, hearing phonemes.
  • Mathematically - Learning to recognise numbers, basic counting, writing numbers. Crucially our foundation students have participated in hands-on games which support the development of these key skills. Manipulatives, and good resources are enabling our students to construct a strong understanding of concepts which initially can be quite abstract to them.

WELLBEING:

Establishing school routines and understanding the school expectations has also been a strong focus. Our Foundation students work on being bucket fillers and importantly being ‘CEPS Friendly Kids’. This work on understanding the school values and expected behaviours is crucial in giving them the tools to be happy and healthy members of our school community.

BUDDIES:

Our Buddies Program continues throughout the term and the yr 6 students are working weekly with our foundation students to support and nurture them as they settle into school life.

All Foundation students have made a wonderful start to their time at CEPS and I have enjoyed visiting them and getting to know their different personalities!
